Wedding Invitations & Paper

Invitation Timing

I tried to find some similar post on here about this issue but I couldn't seem to locate any. My FI and I are getting married at a vineyard. Like most places they need a final head count for themselves + the caterer 30 days in advance. This sets our final price so clearly I'm worried about it. When should we send out invites? Is 8 weeks appropriate without worrying about non-RSVP'ers and getting it all figured out? I think it should be but I wandered if anyone else has advice or has been through similar.
Thanks!!!

I don't think that is like most places at all. Our original venue and the one we switched to didn't need a count until a week before, and whenever brides have this 30 days out deadline here, a bunch of people are surprised by it.

You send invitations 6-8 weeks in advance. If your venue does legitimately need the count 30 days in advance, make sure to send them 8 weeks in advance, then.

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Yeah 8 weeks sounds good. It's a package that includes catering, tables, chairs, and the like so they do need it because they have to get those things for us. We basically just tell them the number and they handle everything else in that month. It doesn't bother me needing it that early just wondering when the right time would be to send and expect RSVP's.

  • My package includes all of those things and they dont need a final count until a week before.

  • Well like I said it doesn't bother me that they need it then. I know I like to have room to get things done and not feel rushed. Its just a single couple who runs this vineyard and they just opened it up to the public last year so they are fairly new to this. They are helping us a bunch with pricing and all so I definitely won't complain about needing a final head count 30 days in advance.

@MaryGraceRich congratulations on your 40lbs by the way! That's awesome! :) I'm trying to lose about 20 myself.

  • Thank you!! It was originally 50 but I gained 10lbs back. Weight watchers works! I want to lose another so I am joining again on tuesday with a co-worker.
And to answer your original question, 8 weeks should be fine. I am sending mine at that point with RSVP date 3 weeks before the wedding. That gives me a week to track down those that didnt rsvp.

  • Yeah that sounds good. I am on Weight Watchers myself for the 2nd time. I lost 20 lbs the first time (Jan-April 2013) and kept it off. I just rejoined to lose my next 20. I gained 40 the year my FI and I moved in together and I want to be back at that "first met" weight! :)

  • Sounds like good motivation. I was at my heaviest when FI and I started dating. I decided to go on weight watchers because his sister joined and the awful, jealous girl in me didnt want her to skinnier than me. FWIW I love FSIL and have no ill feelings towards her. I just wanted to look good if she was going to look good.
Good Luck!!! The first two weeks are always the hardest.

  • Yeah. It's been about 2 weeks since I started back. Special K, Smart Ones, and just fruits/veggies are my best friend. Lots of water again. Down 3 lbs as of today so I'm happy! :) Keep up that work. I know what you mean. One of my BM's is a gorgeous blonde German who is just smoking and she's married and has a baby and still looks great. I love her and she's amazing but I want to look great too! I don't even have kids. lol

This is what we're doing too. Don't worry, you're not alone, it's just rare that it's needed that early.

  • 30 days is really early.  It's generally rude to ask for an RSVP more than a month in advance, so you will be cutting it close if they are serious about that 30 day due date.

6-8 weeks is when they should be sent, so 8 weeks is fine.
  • Well they are serious. All of our family lives about 1-3 hours away from the location so it's hard to say who can or can't come. We are paying a deposit for 120 guest but if we only actually get 90 then they need to know and that will adjust our final amount owed. I'm not going to push my luck and be late even though they have been generous to us thus far. I will probably just send at 8 weeks and at the 5 week mark go ahead and see who I need to reach out to.
