Reception in Murrells Inlet

Hi! My fiance and i are getting married in Murrells Inlet at Huntington Beach State Park.  We are having a small wedding of around 50 people and would like to go to a local restaurant for dinner.  We would like to be able to dance and order drinks as well.  We are from MI and will be traveling home for an actual reception, would it be okay to have guest pay their own bill considering we will be having another reception at home that will have food?  What restaurant would be good? I was thinking Wild Tuna. Any ideas, opinions, suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Absolutely not.  Your reception after the ceremony is your "thank you" to your guests.  You don't thank your guests for coming by asking them to pay for their own dinner.
  • What @JoanE2012 said. If you can't afford to host everyone to dinner at a restaurant after the wedding, there are a lot of other cost-effective options to properly host your guests. If you plan for a non-meal time wedding, you can do cake and punch or hors d'oeuvres. You don't have to do anything extravagant, but it would be rude to have your guests pay for their own meals.

  • Do yourself a favor and please do not do this. People will talk about you/your wedding in not nice terms if you require them to feed themselves at your reception. And going out to eat after the ceremony will be your reception since receptions are designed to thank the guests for attending the ceremony.

Why not have a non-meal time wedding and serve desserts and hors d'oeuvres instead?
