Venue Meeting

So, my FI and I met with a venue today. The venue was very beautiful, included set up and clean up, and overall, we both really liked it.  The owner is the one that we met with and she was lovely and would be there on the day of as well.  But, once my FI and I got home we crunched the numbers, we figured that with the package we wanted and the full open bar would be over our budget.  However, if we did a bottle of red and a bottle of white wine per table as well an alcoholic and non-alcoholic punch, it would be much more feasible for us.  We meet with another venue on Tuesday and then we will compare prices and everything.  In the mean time, though, I am so antsy and I just want to pick one and then decide between packages and everything (even though our wedding isn't until 2015).  Anyone else feel this way during wedding planning?

Re: Venue Meeting

  • I feel the same way. We've only met with one venue, but we've scouted several others and they're all really horrible. The venue that we've sort of settled on doesn't have "packages", so they're willing to work with us on what we need which is really nice. They've even said that if we're a small enough party that they can carry on around us, they won't charge us a venue fee. I'm getting pretty antsy. We're still 9 months out (maybe 10, I can't do maths this morning) but I only get up to the city once every 3 months or so, so I want to know what I need to buy when I'm there and not have to rush. And I'm just generally not a very patient person.

  • I absolutely feel this way! We have only met with one venue and they were horrible. I was absolutely in love with the space in pictures for over a year, and I'm soooo disappointed. I've been in contact with a few more and we meet with my new favorite in a week. Their packages are amazing and the manager I spoke with sounded very accommodating. I'm so anxious I just wanna start picking out everything and there's over a year left! Good luck to you hope you find your spot soon!
  • I was the same way when looking at venues. I am in love with the one we're going with though.

  • I am really not excited about picking a venue. I mean, we're having a tiny wedding so really anywhere is fine. We're planning on holding it at a restaurant in Napa area (there are three to choose from, all owned by the same company). My Fi has been to all of the venues/restaurants multiple times and I kind of just want him to pick the best one and I'll trust his judgement. But he's adamant that we should take a trip up north to check them out and pick one together. That's sweet and all, but it's just SOMETHING ELSE that I have to spend energy and effort contemplating. Ugh.

I mean, I'm sure it'll be exciting to go check them out (and I'm sure we need to "taste test", mwahahaha woohoo!) but right now it's just a daunting task.
  • Picking a venue and budget regarding venue and catering/bar was definitely the trickiest part. Everything else felt a lot easier once we had that settled. We found a venue we loved that allowed us to bring in our own alcohol. That was huge.

Keep in mind that there are only 4 glasses of wine in a bottle. If your table has 8 people at it, what if everyone wants a glass of red? I think the bottles of wine on the tables thing only works when they are replenished by the staff once they're out.
  • Yes, it's insane. I'm actually 3 hours away from my venue, and was considering booking without seeing it in person because I'm so antsy and impatient. Then I told myself the date I want will still be there (I want a Sunday) so to calm down and go check it out. I have an appointment in 2.5 weeks.

The tables would have 6 people at them because we are only having about 50 people at our wedding.  But you're right, if they all wanted the same kind it kind of wouldn't work or be fair I guess.  I will talk to the owner and see if there are any other possibly options.

  • Glad to know I'm not alone :)

I met with the other venue today but the room that the reception would be in is going to be renovated in a few months so I don't know exactly what it will look like.  They also are changing their package and price options so I have to email the lady and hopefully she will have it done by Saturday because the venue is going to a bridal show and they kind of need that information for then.
