How Was Your Weekend?

Hey everyone, it's Monday (boo)! How was your weekend? Anything exciting?

This weekend I was supposed to go to the DC G2G but my PTO was never "officially" approved so I was home. Friday night we cleaned the kitchen and mudroom and then watched Breaking Bad up to the end of season 4. We're taking a break until all of season 5 is on Netflix. I really can't wait though!

Saturday we cleaned the rest of the house. We went to our DJ and paid our deposit for him. I really like the guy, he did my CW's wedding and she couldn't stop saying how awesome he was. FI's co-workers also used him and loved him as well so we're really excited. I just hope everyone dances, because I will be dancing the whole time! He also threw in some uplighting for free which was awesome since we already negotiated him down to the best price we got so far! I also dropped my e-ring off to the jewelers to get appraised, and my finger feels SO NAKED!

We did some grocery shopping and I met up with someone I found on the wedding classified board here to buy some vases off of her. On our way home, our neighbor calls and come to find out our whole street is without power. We had some random thunderstorms here and we had a lightning strike on our street. So we got home, unpacked groceries and tried to listen to some music for our first dance song. Then we called our neighbors to see what they were doing (FI was getting bored with looking for music) so we went over there and hung out until the power went on. By the time the power came on, we had to prep all the food for FI's friends to come over to play CAH. I got FI all the expansion packs for Christmas, so playing CAH with them is like playing the game for the first time again. It was amazing! We had so much fun, I think we played half of the black cards.

Sunday morning I make FI a pork roll, egg and cheese sandwich and then I caught up on my DVR. I started some laundry and our basement started flooding. FI ended up having to call our neighbor to help, run to Home Depot, buy a plumbing snake and snaked the whole pipe. Come to find out (and I know this is NOT me because I only use tampons and haven't used them since we moved to our house) someone was flushing sanitary pads down the toilet and they were clogging the line. FI was like "ARE THEY YOURS?" I'm like "NO, I don't wear diapers!" The old owner had a teenage daughter and I KNOW how it was as a teenager to have a period, so if she flushed them, then whatever, we fixed it. I was getting so stressed, and we had an appointment with our photographer so I could pay the deposit, FI could meet her and we could kick around some ideas for e-pics. I ended up having to go by myself (again) but at least my photographer is booked but we still have no ideas for e-pics. We have until April so I'm not stressing it.

So, now we have officially a few things booked/done: venue, photographer, JOP, DJ, invites, centerpiece ideas, and HM.

Re: How Was Your Weekend?

  • @buddysmom80 - ugh!!  I never flushed those down the toilet when I wore them (I haven't in a few years), but it makes you wonder if they had to clean out the pipes before for the same problem.  GROSS.

my weekend was pretty good!  Friday after work we did our Insanity workout (it was actually 2 workouts!), ate dinner at the house, watched 30 minutes of a movie and then went to bed early.  we were both exhausted after a long week at work.

Saturday we got up to do our workout and then went and ate a Guatemalan feast!!  I ended up getting the huevos rancheros and it was fabulous!!!  we also split a giant mango smoothie.

that afternoon I went to my pastry class and we spent 2 hours learning about and making French-style pate a choux and creme puffs.  we learned to make the batter, Chantilly creme, and a creme-based chocolate mousse.  then..  we ate.  YUM.

yesterday was our day off of workouts.  YES!!!  we went to church, ate lunch, and then spent a couple hours cleaning the house.  we put away Christmas decorations (my house feels so bare!) and did a good clean.  I also cooked some chicken strips (just pan-grilled) and meatballs, flash-froze them for an hour, and then stuck them in a freezer bag.  now I'll have easy chicken or meatballs in the freezer for when I need a quick protein.

tonight we have the double Insanity workout and I am DREADING it!
  • The hockey game Saturday night was awesome! Football was good. I have been a total insomniac the last two weeks, so that is bad and is finally catching up with me (beyond the I-still-feel-sick feelings). Work today, sleep as soon as I get home.
  • My weekend was great, except for one small detail. Friday I headed down to DC to meet up with @swazzle, @beanot2002, @suzie211, @tuarceatha and @cask85. We had a ton of fun, drank all the wine, danced like nobody was watching, and talked until we were hoarse.

Holy crap did I pay for it, though. Saturday morning I was sick sick sick. Some strong words from swazzle got me out of bed and we headed to the White House for a tour. It was really interesting and cool to see stuff that previously I'd only seen on the West Wing. Then we had a yummy brunch. I headed home and took a much-needed two hour nap.

Yesterday I went for a run, then a mixed martial arts class. I made cookies, made a costco trip, and headed down to VA to meet up with some of the girls again. Tuarceatha's DH made some awesome pizza and we hung out for awhile. All-in-all, a great weekend!!

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • The weekend went by way too fast. I can't believe it's already Monday again. Friday night I went grocery shopping, we had nachos for dinner and got to relax.  On Saturday I had rehearsal early in the morning, in the later afternoon FI went to mass. Then we went out to continue registering, we registered at Sur La Table, we love that place.  We registered for a bunch of small inexpensive kitchen gadgets. Yay Then we went to Men's Warehouse to look for tuxes.  FI loved the grey vera wang tuxes so he picked those out.  I wasn't picturing grey originally but I love the look.  I left it up to FI to choose the color of the tie and vest between the ivory, yellow, or the pink.  Fi actually chose the pink, he said it looked better with the grey.  I feel a bit bad because I said to pick whatever color he likes, I was a bit against having the guys wear pink ties, but the pink looked the best with the grey tuxes.  Then we went out to dinner at CheeburgerCheeburger a 50's diner type place, they make really good veggie burgers acutally.

Sunday I had rehearsal for 4 hours. My body is so sore today from 4 hours of dancing but it's better than being at the gym.  I came home did some laundry and read Allegiant for the rest of the evening.  I am now 70% of the way through the book, and I'm just starting not to care anymore.  Not sure why, although I do wonder how it will end I don't seem to care too much about the relationship between the characters...

  • Well my weekend was interesting... I live in West Virginia and on Thursday evening the water company issued a "do not use" order for water in my area because some chemical got into the water supply. We can't even boil water to use! Water can only be used to flush toilets.

My graduate class began on Friday and the university (which is local... and therefore didn't have water) had us travel to a campus about an hour south where there was usable water. They put us in dorms for Friday night. It was nice to get a shower but NOT nice to sleep on a crappy rock hard dorm bed with sheets that were paper thin (and it was FREEZING in there!) I hadn't been in a dorm for 8 years so it was definitely an experience... one I hope to never need to repeat!

Class was definitely interesting and I got along with my classmates. (Aside from the one crazy older lady who talks nonstop... I swear every class has one) I look forward to the rest of this program. It seems challenging (since it will force me to think differently) and extremely interesting. I had two 8-hr class sessions and I wasn't bored even once throughout that time!

I'm at work today, slightly skanky but so is everyone else. At least we are allowed to wear whatever to work since we can't do laundry yet. Hopefully we can use the water soon!

    ******************************************************

  • Hi everyone! Hope y'all had a great weekend. @buddysmom80, just ugh with the basement flooding and whatnot. It sounds like you got so much done for the wedding, though!

This weekend was OK. On Friday I worked and then did a workout with a friend that evening.

Saturday I got up, got a haircut, paid what felt like my life savings on textbooks for next semester, and then had brunch with Swazzle, Tiger, Suzie, Suzie's sister, and Beanbot in DC. They are good company, in case you didn't already know! Then I headed back home to work on my paper and start studying for my exam.

Sunday started off like a mess. I was supposed to work starting at 7 am, but a co-worker had texted to say that our census was low and that I didn't have to come in the next day. Since this person isn't a charge nurse or my supervisor, I figured she was just letting me know that they might call me off. Apparently someone delegated the task of officially calling me off to this co-worker, because when I came in they were like, "Uhhhh...Amapola? What are you doing here?" It was my own fault for not calling to make sure, but I wish I had heard directly from someone in charge; just seems safer for me that way.

Anyway, so I drove home, and immediately had to drive right back because I left my phone there. >:( (First-world problems, anyone?). So I worked on my paper for a while, took my mom out for breakfast and did some grocery shopping, and then came home and accidentally fell asleep for three hours. I HATE it when that happens; I just think I'm going to close my eyes for 20 minutes and then end up in a full nap. Anyway, so when I woke up a friend texted to see if I wanted to get coffee or something, and I was like, "YES. CAFFEINE." So we got together and talked for a while. Came home, did more of the paper, snuggled with Maggie.
  • My weekened was beyond amazing! This is gonna be long...

Friday night I drove into the city to meet up with @swazzle @suzie211 (and her sister-we're all convinced they're twins) @cu97tiger and @tuarceatha. We headed to a restaurant called Matchbox (at my brother's suggestion) and had the most amazing pizzas ever. I had a prosciutto and black mission fig pizza. It was amazing. After the first 2 slices, the fig was too sweet for me though. I'll let the other girls tell you what they had, but they all looked amazing. @CASK85 met us there and she and I got to talk a little science (Bean's science-not mine haha) she had me in stitches the whole time.

The waiters were so freaking nice. We had 2 working with us. We got there at about 7pm and stayed until after midnight. They never once rushed us out of there. We just kept chatting all night until we realized these nice fellas were now only staying for our table. Ooops! I hope we didn't keep them from hot dates, cause they were such nice guys.

Afterwards, the girls wanted to go dancing, so we headed down the street to a spot called El Centro where I enjoyed sitting and watching them dance and be silly. More shenanigans ensued. Eventually I was far to beat to hang any longer so @tuarceatha and I headed back to the hotel at about 2am. I was impressed with myself for hanging in as long as I did.

Saturday morning came way too fast, and it was time to rise and shine and head to our hot dates with Barry and Joe (haha) at the White House. The morning was filled with absolute hillarity, including me almost peeing my pants in the blue room. We got to see the spot where the president gives all of his speeches from. It was pretty neat to see something you see on TV all them time, in person.

After our tour, I annoyed a SS guard who was keeping an eye on a 30 year protest (Thanks to Suzie's sister for filling us in on that history! I'm ashamed that I've lived here my whole life and she knew way more than me haha) @ swazzle and I walked down the road admiring the park police ponies tucked into their trailers for lunch, and then we headed to brunch at one of my favorite spots in the city. @amapola met us there and guys, she is freaking adorable and sweet! OH! @swazzle got to feel No-uh kick at brunch! The look on her face was priceless!

After lunch we headed back to the hotel, @peekaboo met us there and hung out for a little bit. Swazzle and I ordered room service (I'll let her tell you that part of the story), and I fell asleep for a quick nap before driving home for the night.

On Sunday el Senor, Bean and I headed back into the city to pick up swazzle and take her to the Natural History Museum. Bean gave us a personal tour (which means there was a lot of back and forth and back and forth, but it was awesome). Highlights were: "Mom, why does that whale look like he has herpes???" (barnacles) "Um...Mom? Is this Neanderthal Man taking a poop or are those his testicles?" (penis-the museum likes to be anatomically correct, especially when it came to cave woman bushes...they were very prominent) and, Me: "Hey that mummy is missing his foot!" Bean: "Yep. And his penis." (straight face, 'drops mic', walks away) Me: "..............................."

Then we headed out of the city and to @tuarceatha's house where Mr. Tuarceatha made us the most amazing homemade gourmet pizzas I have ever tasted. Us girls got to sit and chat some more, while the fellas (Bean included) watched football and chatted themselves. el Senor even trimmed his beard for the occassion! The ride back to drop swazzle off at the train station was filled with even more hilarity as el Senor sang the directions to me. I was laughing so hard I thought I was either going to crash the car on the highway, or give birth. Thankfully neither happened.

I was super sad hugging @swazzle goodbye, and Bean gave her a two armed hug! *sniffle sniffle** I had an amazing time with everyone and I can't wait to hug them all again soon!

  • I had such a fantastic weekend. Friday night FI and I went bowling with an old CW of mine and her BF. I had NOT been excited for bowling, but after a few beers it was awesome (even though I had the lowest score by far). We also made plans to go play ping pong at Spin in the city in a few weeks, so I'm looking forward to that.

Saturday we slept late because I was a little hungover, then I went with FI to the Dr. because he's been sick for over a week. He got a prescription for antibiotics, so hopefully he'll be feeling better soon. When we got home I took a nap for a few hours and when I woke up it was time for FI to go t a poker game at his friend's new house. He stayed there for the night since it's over an hour away, and I snuggled with the pup all night and watched the movie "About Time" which was cute.

Sunday morning FI got home before 9am, and I got up and went to the gym. I was soooo happy to see I had lost 2lbs within the past week - I've been working so hard at my diet and at exercising every day, so it was really nice to see it start to pay off. Then I went food shopping, rushed home and cleaned the apartment as well/quickly as I could (with lots of help from FI), because my old roommate was coming up for brunch. I made us delicious home fries, scrambled eggs, and french toast. We had mimosas and somehow managed to finish two bottles of champagne with only about 2 cups of OJ. Drunk Brunch: Success. She also brought us some cute engagement gifts and a really sweet card.

Last night I watched the Golden Globes, and Girls. Today my body is sore from too much exercise lately, so I'm taking the day off :-)

  • This weekend was sort of busy and productive.

Saturday FI and I got up and met with the guy who will be our officiant. We met at Starbucks and talked for about an hour and we both feel pretty good about him. We're definitely going to do pre-marital counseling with him but that won't happen until this summer sometime. He's completely booked right now and was nearly booked for the year for weddings (he only does about 18 to 20 weddings throughout the whole year).

Afterwards we ran home and I tossed some food in the crockpot for beef stroganoff and then drove off again to meet my two friends for wedding dress shopping and lunch. I think I tried on about 8 dresses in 45 minutes and came out liking a few. Here's my favorite (not a flattering picture at all...but I said I'd share :) ). The more I look at this picture the more I hate it but oh well.

    image

My main apprehension with the dress is I'd need to buy it off the rack and it's two sizes too small currently. I could get it altered to have a corset back and with the weight I'm hoping the lose that may not even be necessary. I have about 9 months so it's definitely doable. I just don't think I feel ready to settle on a dress yet. I scheduled a 2nd appointment for next weekend with this salon and one other and I'm hoping to make a decision then with my mom and @southernpeach89 present.

Sunday FI and I raked out the garden beds in our front yard and replaced it with all with mulch from a tree we had cut down last week. Now that it's all dried out it looks mostly like dirt so I think when we get closer to spring I'll just buy some actual mulch from the store and cover it over again. In the meantime the tree mulch will at least be some nice nutrients for the beds. It was the first Sunday in a long time that we've spent working out in the yard and it felt really good. I'm really starting to feel down from all the rain and yucky weather we've had. I'm ready for spring and sunshine. I feel like we haven't had even a consistent week of sunshine in forever.

Oh and I also started making this wreath but I ran out of burlap and need to go back to the store for more.image

  • My weekend was good! On Thursday I got back to Colorado and got to see BF for the first time in three weeks which was very much needed. We just spent that night relaxing.

On Friday we hung out with some friends. I wasn't really looking forward to it but it was pretty fun. We made pizza and played Cards Against Humanity.

Saturday I played Settlers of Catan with BF and his siblings. It was so much fun. His sister who is usually so sweet and nice gets super intense and competitive during that game and it was hilarious to see that side of her. And I almost won! Best part of the night though - we tried a wine (a pinot noir) that was not only delicious but that didn't make me sick! So yay!

Sunday the Broncos beat the Chargers (woo!) and I spent the day prepping for classes. I'm a little nervous for today but I'm always nervous on the first day of classes.

  • @lmhollister I love that dress! You look so pretty!

  • @lmhollister woot woot clearance priced dresses (mine was also clearance, I love it) but I do understand your hesitation at buying a dress right away :)

My weekend was pretty fun.  On Saturday, the boys went golfing and I went to the zoo with my sister.  We fed giraffes and some crazy birds that attacked us.  Then we went to lunch with the boys.  It was a great time, and I'm glad I live close to her again!  Unfortunately, the colts lost Saturday night and that was lame.

Sunday, we hung out, grocery shopping and football for most of the day.  It was also pretty relaxing, so I enjoyed it.  Also, I opened up my online class for students, so it should be a whirlwind of a week starting that up :)
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • @lmhollister - Such a lovely dress!!!

@lmhollister - it has POCKETS!!! Dresses with pockets make me happier than they probably should.

Friday night I worked at our women's hockey game. We beat my alma mater (who is ranked 10th nationally, and we're not ranked at all, so that was pretty cool).

Saturday I lounged around with the pup for a while before I had to go back into work for another hockey game. We tied, but it was a really fun game. Then I went home & watched the Patriots kill the Colts. (haha, Andrew Luck, you ugly bastahd.) BF & I ordered pizza & wings, and I used up pretty much all of my extra WW points for the week, but it was worth it.

Yesterday BF & I planned out our meals for the week & went grocery shopping. I was really excited about the whole process, and he kept laughing at me. "It's just grocery shopping." Way to be a boner-killer, dude. haha. Then we watched the Broncos/Chargers game, the new show on HBO called True Detectives with Woody Harrelson & Matthew McConaughey, and I watched Girls while he watched Shameless.

Annnd now now it's Monday. Woof.

  • @buddysmom80 - sounds like you made a good chunk of progress on the wedding planning. Very exciting!

My weekend was pretty good. Went out for dinner and drinks on Friday with BF and BF's co-worker and co-worker's GF. Saturday we went to the hockey game with a different coworker and coworker's FI. We lost, which sucked and I also ran into ex-BF who I dated for 5 1/2 years. SO awkward. It was one of those things where I saw him, he saw me and I had to walk past him to get to where I was going. I felt really weird walking past without at least saying hi, so I went over to him. He looked like he wanted to run away. haha. What are the chances out of all the hockey games in a season we happen to be at the same one, in sections right next to each other? Ick. Luckily BF was standing at a table waiting for me, so I didn't have to introduce them.

Yesterday, I watched some football and finally put away Christmas decorations. My apartment seems so much bigger with the tree down!

  • The girls have pretty accurately recapped my Friday.  Food, wine, and window dancing.  We  also figured out @CASK85 is practically neighbors with my sister so BIL gave her a ride home.  She is a brave soul because BIL's driving is a little crazy!  But we got her home safely:) So yeah, it was a pretty amazeballs night.

Saturday,  my sister and I headed to the White House for our tour.  The train ride was questionable, but luckily we made it with all of our stomach contents intact! We misinterpreted the no bags inside to mean they would have storage lockers for them. Nope.  So we wandered to a hotel nearby and batted our eyelashes while looking super sad, and the concierge took pity and kept them for us. Win!  He wasn't supposed to, so we promised not to share our secret while roaming the WH.  After the tour, he wasn't there and his boss was instead.  My sister and I decided we didn't want the dude to lose his job over purses, so we went to brunch with the other girls.   There was good food and laughter for like three hours.  Eventually we made our way back to the hotel to get our bags from Mr. Concierge. And then we took the most amazing two hour nap:)

Saturday night  my sister and I met up with my friend N who just moved to DC and my sister's coworker M.  We went to a new restaurant in Lincoln Center that everyone raves about.  Yum.  The drinks were so freaking good. After we wandered to the diviest of dive bars down the street.  So much fun.

Sunday I slept in until noon so I could try to recover from the previous two days.  We wandered into Bethesda for brunch and then lounged for a couple hours.  It was so sad getting on my plane!

I can't wait to make plans to do it all again.

  • @bethsmiles Thank you!

@BriSox81 @beanbot2002 What's wrong with me that I'm not super obsessed with the pockets? They're fun...but I loved the dress before I even knew it had them so it was an "Oh, pockets" sort of moment lol.

A dress with pockets is pretty much my favorite thing on the planet. ESPECIALLY when you don't know they're there, and then all of a sudden it's like "POCKETS!!!" and it's the happiest little surprise.

  • @lmhollister That dress looks amazing on you. I'm a huge fan of the pockets. I know you're not obsessed with them like the rest of us seem to be, but omg so fucking useful. I always wanted to carry my partner's ring myself (and have him carry mine), and so I was a little sad that my dream dress didn't have pockets.

If it makes you feel any better about getting a dress so early, I got my dress in early November (got engaged at the end of August, our wedding will be in mid November this year). My future sister-in-law got her dress the week after she got engaged, a year before her wedding.

I'm a pudgy gal, so I'm feeling intense pressure to lose weight before the wedding. My dress is currently a little too tight on me to be comfortable for a whole night of dancing, and I can't wear any kind of bra underneath because it's so tight. While I do hope to lose weight before the wedding (I'm hoping that the fact that it's MY WEDDING will finally give me the damn motivation I've needed all my life), I'm focusing on loving my dress and how I look in it assuming I don't lose weight (well, much weight--I'm about 10 lbs over my typical pudgy weight right now).

So, if you love the dress, and it can be made to fit better by converting it to a corset back, then I wouldn't worry too much about buying a dress so early.

This weekend was pretty low key and I loved it. I was hungover on Saturday but by the late afternoon I started to feel better so H and I went on a date. We went to bonefish grill and then finally went to go see Catching Fire...hah a little late on that one I guess. I really liked it though.

  • Aww, don't feel bad about how late it was, @southernpeach89! BF and I still haven't seen The Hobbit 2 yet, and more than once we've waited for cable premiers to see movies...
  • @Keptinstitches, we want to wait and see The Wolf on Wallstreet since it's supposed to be a pretty long movie. I can't sit in a movie theater forever so I'd rather watch it in the comfort of my home lol.
  • @Imhollister - that dress is really pretty!  One of the dresses I'm considering is also a clearance dress 2 sizes too small!!

Here are the dresses I'm in between  (sorry if the pictures are huge)image
