His first wedding made him a better groom!

So while FI and I were sitting in bed with our coffee this morning he went on a tirade that he doesn't think we should bother with a wedding. Apparently he decided that based on his first experience with weddings he thinks they are awful.
  • He is embarrassed that he had a cash bar since he always buys beer when his friends come over
  • He thought it was dumb he made his guests wait two hours between the ceremony and reception
  • He didn't like that he felt his guests had to buy him things since the registry info was sent with the invites
  • He hated that his ex bought an expensive dress and they couldn't afford a better caterer
  • He hated that it was her day and not theirs
All this started because the damn david's bridal commercial with the "invisible groom" came on and he decided the monologue cut off before the groom could say fuck it I'm getting an annulment tomorrow. Once I explained that all of his concerns were nothing to worry about because it is our day, food is more important than my dress, and I believe in good etiquette he was stoked and decided I'm the most amazing woman in the world. I really should send him here to let him see there are other good brides too!

  • I feel your FI's pain. When I look back to my first wedding all those years ago, I cringe. CRINGE!!!!!
I had a large gap. I let my mom force me into marrying the guy. I was terribly unhappy. My ex husband spent most of the reception outside smoking. I sat at the sweetheart table by myself.

And I got fucking drunk. It was at the end of the reception and I think the only people that noticed were my best friend and my dad (because everyone else was plastered) but still.
  • wow, I just watched that David's ad.....what an AWFUL message!!

I know right!? It was on last night when I was watching tv with FI's son who even questioned the slogan at the end "First comes love, then comes David's". He's 11 and was sitting there blankly and said isn't marriage what comes next?

I dont know. If he was really concerned with all of these things he should have stood up and said something, as ooposed to just letting it happen.

  • @KatWAG the first time around he didn't know there was anything actually wrong with the wedding. In fact he still didn't he thought everything that happened was the norm and would have to happen again. Plus he had zero say in anything the bride and her family just threw it all together and shut him out. It's no surprise that things didn't work.

  • We should all find places like youtube where they are playing the Davids Bridal Commercial and thumbs down it, and leave disapproving comments.  Maybe if enough people do it they will pull the add, or at least not make others like it in the future

  • They can also lose money by doing that. Global consumer spending is undeniably controlled by women - especially in the multi-billion dollar wedding industry - so yeah, they picked a market - but we need to let them know that todays woman is not just thinking of herself and her beautiful gown when it comes to getting married.
