Rehearsal Dinner Outfit

Hey Everyone!! I hope everyone's wedding planning is going great (or wedding went great)! Just a quick questions, what does everyone plan on wearing to their rehearsal dinner?? I was looking at dresses, but I didn't know if I should go with something casual, or a little bit fancier! Feedback PLEASE!!!

Re: Rehearsal Dinner Outfit

  • There really isn't a right/wrong answer; I think it depends on where your rehearsal dinner is...my best friend had her rehearsal dinner at a super casual buffet place, so she wore pants and a nice shirt. Another good friend had hers at an upscale steakhouse so she was in a dress and heels. I say figure out where your dinner will be, and just dress appropriately for the place :)

  • Wear whatever you feel great in.

I agree with PP in that it depends on your RD. A simple cotton sundress could be perfect. Or a cockatil dress with pantyhose and heels might be better suited.

FWIW, I had a fancy RD and I regret spending a lot of money on my dress.

  • It depends where you have the dinner at and what you feel comfortable in. I wore something I already had in my closet.

  • Definitely depends where your rehearsal dinner is at.  Even though I still have about 7 months to go, this question also popped in my head.  Our rehearsal dinner is at a Scottish restaurant (FI and his family are of Celtic decent) so I doubt I will dress very fancy.  I might find a cute, casual dress and pair it with some flat boots.

  • I'm definitely going to use it as an excuse to buy a new dress. :) There are a few Ted Bakers that I've had my eye on and no excuse for a splurge. :D
  • Our RD is going to be at a nice enough, but hardly fancy, place. We are also getting married in July in north Florida- so it looks like a summery dress for me! I want to get something nice/cute, but something I will wear again for sure. Also, my parents will be having a huge welcome party in their back yard that evening, so I want to wear something I feel comfortable hanging out with my friends roasting marshmallows!

  • I wore a nice maxi dress. We had our rehearsal dinner in a private room at Maggiano's, so it was a little more upscale.

  • We are doing a costume party as ours will be in on Halloween. BUT I still agree with everyone - it will depend on where your RD is at. Like some others I'm using this as an excuse to get a new dress (to wear with a ballroom style costume party mask)!
  • See, I feel the opposite. It depends where your rehearsal is. We're having the dinner at Hoss's most likely... but my rehearsal is at my church. I would never wear jeans to church. I'll be in one of my dresses either one I own already (most likely) or one I buy.

  • Rehearsal dinners aren't really a thing here in SA. I know a lot of people will say that that's bad etiquette, but I have honestly never been involved in a wedding where there was a dinner after the rehearsal, so I'm guessing it must be a cultural divide thing.

Our wedding is OOT for almost everyone though, so we will most likely invite our BP and any "early" guests to have a braai (that's kinda like a barbecue) with us. Our whole wedding is very laid-back, so the rehearsal "dinner" will be too. I'll probably wear a sundress, or jeans and a t-shirt.

Anyway, the point is that what you're going to wear will be determined by the tone and formality of the venue.

  • We're going out to watch fireworks right after our rehearsal dinner, so I sure as heck hope everyone comes in jeans and t-shirts or they're going to be awfully uncomfortable. I'll probably wear a shorts, a band t-shirt, and a giant bubble to protect myself from mosquitoes!

  • I wore a dress similar to what my bridesmaids wore at the actual wedding.  When they were looking for dresses they had me try on a certain style to compare and I ended up loving the dress so they talked me in to buying it for the rehearsal.  It was a nice dress but not overly fancy.  My FI wore jeans and a nice shirt and it did not look weird together.  And I have been able to wear the dress twice since the wedding, so it was a good buy!

  • I wore jeans and a cute top.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Depending on the venue you could go either way.
  • We haven't even talked about the rehearsal dinner yet.
  • Ours will be at a nice restaurant so I plan to wear a dress and heels. I spent forever trying to find a new dress, then found the perfect one...in my closet.
  • I have no idea where ours will be, but I bought a dress anyway. (Yay for good excuses!) I found a beautiful knee-length ivory lace number. I don't care if I wear it to our local pizza joint, it's my RD and I'm going to go fancy!

  • Haven't decided yet. Our reception is at the same venue and right after the ceremony so idk if I will have time to change. Plus changing out of a wedding dress in the bathroom = yuck!
  • I love the RD, you get to dress up a bit more than normal (Because I'm the bride damn it!) and it doesn't have to be a white dress.

  • I'll probably end up wearing a maxi dress to my RD. We're catering our favorite BBQ restaurant and hosting it in my parent's backyard so the whole thing is going to be fairly casual. Just consider your venue, the weather, and what you'll feel most comfortable in.

  • I wore a strapless short dress.  It was cute but nothing super formal and it had pockets which I love!

I agree with the others that say it really depends on how fancy your RD is and/or how dolled up you feel like getting.
