NWR - Sympathy Cards

I don't post much, but I lurk a lot and I have question I'm not sure the answer to. My mom passed away last week. I have been receiving lots of cards from friends and co-workers. Do you send out thank you notes? As an aside, there will be no services.

Re: NWR - Sympathy Cards

  • I'm sorry for your loss @mrsmack10612.  I would not expect a thank you card for a card.  If you receive any flowers or gifts at home (or someone brings you food) you should write a thank you note.

  • Thanks @aprilH81.  That's what I thought but wasn't entirely sure what protocol is.

  • I agree with April. Anything more than a card - send a thank you.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

  • I am so sorry for your loss. If you have a break room at work and wish to acknowledge the cards (or any plants the office sends you), from what I've seen at my office it would be appropriate to leave a thank-you note in there. However, this is by no means required.
  • @keptinstitches - Thank you.  My office is too big for that.  I received a plant from some folks that I will be sending thank you notes too, but this is my first go round being this close to the deceased so wasn't sure how to respond to cards.
