Too relaxed/informal?

I'm open to all opinions, love it or hate it. Just for more information, I plan to have a laid back casual wedding. Trying to avoid a "theme" but if there was one, it would be country/"rustic" (sorry y'all!) Girls will be in casual knee length dresses. I love the following pictures but am on the fence as if it's too casual. I personally think it fits FI so much better than a stuffy tux. Not that tuxes aren't nice and make guys look awesome, I just know FI would feel (and look!) more laid back and comfortable in something like this -

  • I'm not a huge fan of this, but that's totally my opinion (and I'm just an internet stranger). It really says "hipster" more than "rustic/laid back". Woulud he be open to khakis and a blazer with a button down shirt and tie? That's a little less "stuffy", but still fits the formality of a wedding, IMHO.

Why don't you just ask your FI what he would like to wear?

I absolutely hate the jeans. The last pic with the khaki slacks looks nice.
Sorry, I forgot to mention I did ask him. He's not really into a tux but said he would be open to just the vest. I also don't like the jeans, but the top 1 was just for an example. I think the 2nd picture is actually navy slacks, not jeans.

I can see why it might come off as hipster. I think we might go with dark slacks, and vest with button up (but solid color) and tie. I'm going to try to find some more pictures and run them by him also.

  • I like it, actually, but I also own a vintage 1970s bike with a basket and have been known to drink out of mason jars, so...
  • What does your FI want to wear?  Those definitely don't say 'wedding' to me, and I honestly don't like the idea of the groom and GMs wearing jeans (even if they are nice, dark jeans).  How about suits
     image
    Or suits without the jacket
    image
Or dress pants, button down shirt, and tie

Or, a button down shirt and nice pants, no tie

  • @doeydo ... is the next pic in the series no shirt / no pants?!
Why do you think they made these? ;)

Super casual?! HA! .. that made my night! (It's the small pleasures in life when you're working on Organic Chemistry...)

  • @doeydo hahaha at the boxers, cute. Thanks for the ideas. FI doesn't know exactly what he wants to wear which is why I've been getting some ideas. He liked the pictures I showed him but we both agreed it might be too chill which is why I asked on here.

I personally love the vest look. I'm more prone to the 2nd picture you uploaded, not in grey though. Or is it gray? I never can tell.

  • I don't think a wedding can be too casual, as long as you're taking your commitment seriously. The feelings are what counts, not the clothes. The vest idea is cute, especially if it's something your FI will be comfortable in.
  • I actually adore this look on Ryder Strong (Shawn Hunter from Boy Meets World) but my fiance also said he thinks it's "too hipster" So we are going with grey suits like @doeydo 's picture.

  • I like the casual looks @Doeydo posted much more than the jeans/khaki pictures.

Also think about looking at your wedding pictures in 10, 20 years - lots of popular things now might not be in style, but that far out, would your FI regret wearing jeans on your wedding day?

Great point- I think those plaid shirts and bow ties are something in 20 years from now you're kids will point and laugh as if it's the orange suit from Dumb & Dumber.

  • I like it but I wouldn't do it for most of the reasons already stated - too hipster, will look outdated and silly a couple decades down the road. But I am also not a tux fan.

TK really needs to stop double posting every single one of my posts. And making me edit in HTML. Really over it.

  • Our wedding won't be formal, either.  The ceremony will be outside in a field next to a horse racing track and the reception is inside a barn there.  We're going for a picnic feel (like pinwheels, lawn games, bunting, etc.) and it's in August, so it will be hot outside.  We're considering having the guys in everything but the jacket (like picture 2 from doeydo: pants, shirt, vest, tie), but in tan.  And FI might wear a jacket.  I think that still looks like they're in a wedding, but they won't feel stuffy and can easily remove the vest after the ceremony if they want.

  • FI's groomsman are wearing stone pants and navy blazers.

.........Don't know what FI is wearing yet....

I LOVE it, but it's totally my kind of style anyway.

Your second picture is my favorite and I'd be smitten if my guys were to wear that!

I'm not such a fan of the denim, but I like the navy trousers. It's not so much too "informal" with jeans, I just don't much care for that kind of style.
  • Sorry for the P&R but thanks so much ladies. I have saved a bunch of pictures to share with FI so we can narrow down. Still love the vest look... and Shawn Hunter looks so cute in that, lol.

  • Ha we are planning on doing something similar to those pictures. We are fully aware that it may look silly in 20 years, but it doesn't really bother us. It's fun to look at old wedding photos and see the style of the time IMHO.
