Wedding ring question - match e-ring size?

I have a question on buying an eternity band to go with my engagement ring.  I have a solitaire engagement ring, and the band is a half-eternity band, with the diamonds set into the ring.  The band, which I LOVE, is tiny and very delicate-looking, kind of setting off the diamond.

I'm trying to decide whether to get the eternity band that is the exact match to my engagement ring, or to get one size up (diamonds are slightly larger).  They are both set exactly the same and would be flush with my engagement ring, the wedding band would just be slightly wider.

The band that is the exact match is so thin that I'm wondering if it will feel too tiny to wear alone.  I will almost always wear them together, of course, but when we travel I'd like to have the ability to wear the wedding band alone.

I realize this is mostly personal opinion, but curious if everyone just buys the matching band, or if other people have gone up a size for the band, and the rings still matched and looked great together.  Thoughts?

Re: Wedding ring question - match e-ring size?

  • well...normally rings are sized for the size of your finger.......so I would go with the same size..since if you ever want to wear your wedding band alone...you don't risk losing it...

  • Sorry - I should have clarified - not the actual size of the ring, but the width of the band/size of the diamonds in the ring.
  • I have a solitaire, and am also thinking of this same question. Since I have no smaller diamonds on my e-ring, I am thinking that having slightly larger-than-"regular" on my wedding band may be nice. But I will just have to go and try it on and see what I like together.
  • I personally don't like mismatched bands, I think it looks odd, but if you like it go for it.

If you are concerned about traveling with a "tiny" band, maybe you could consider getting a silver/stainless steel cheap ring that can serve as a wedding band when you don't feel comfortable wearing both ring?

  • I went with a thin band and a few small diamonds in the band. I have small hands, ring size is 5.5, 5 in cold weather. A wide band would have overwhelmed my hand (my engagement ring is a 3 stone, with a bit of a high gallery, and a fairly slim band). We bought the band seperate from my engagement ring, as the stones in the engagement ring came from a family heirloom. I just wanted a little added sparkle in the wedding band, and it is absolutely perfect!
  • My e-ring's band has bevels, so I won't be getting a matching band. It's also thicker than I would normally wear on my tiny hands (4mm). If I were to get anything the same width or thicker, the combination would go up to my knuckle! Well, almost. I'm probably just going to get a 2mm plain white gold band. For when I don't want to wear the two together, I'll get a sterling silver band with a Celtic design or something pretty.

My ring size is 3! Lol.
  • Tiny finger brigade! I'm 4.75, but can blow up to a 5.5 when I indulge in too many salty snacks.

  • I'm 4.5 ring size... 4 or smaller if it's cold. I've always preferred smaller jewelry and my e-ring is solitaire with 2mm band. I initially thought about getting a wrap for it or a band with diamonds but I really didn't like them when I tried them on. It just felt bulky. Even wider plain bands felt too big. I ended up liking just a plain 2mm band. But I think matching width is up to you... I doubt most people would notice either way.

  • My e-ring is 2mm wide, and my wedding band is 1.8mm wide. The diamonds are the same size in both bands. My e-ring is a half-eternity band and my wedding band is a 3/4-eternity band. If you look really closely at the underside of my hand (where the plain parts of the bands are), you can tell that one's thicker than the other. Otherwise, they look to be the same size.

I have long, thin fingers, so I also wanted thin bands, because I knew thick bands would overwhelm my fingers. The centre stone in my e-ring (a sapphire) is set with a halo, and sits fairly high off my hand.

I really wanted a wedding band I could wear by itself if needed, so I wanted an e-ring that sat high enough for a non-curved wedding band, which I got. Even though, technically, they don't match (like they're not part of a set), you can't tell to look at them.

I was also afraid that a thick band would overwhelm my thin engagement ring.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • I actually want a wedding band that looks a bit different than my engagement ring. I saw a super pretty one that looks like diamond vines twisting around that I've recently become obsessed with.

I think it's fine to have different-sized stones. However, I would try on both and see what you like best, because you're the one looking at them all day.

  • I ended up buying a plain white gold band. My e-ring looks like two rings on the sides and with all my tiny diamonds I did not need any more stones.

My advice is go into the jewelry store and try a few bands on. That's what I ended up doing to find what I wanted.

I feel like I have fat fingers with my 7.75 ring finger.
