XP: I must be nuts...

XP

I had an interview on Wednesday that lasted 2 hours.  I walked away from the interview, extremely excited and feeling like I nailed the interview.  I have been "on edge" wondering what the outcome of the interview would be, as that is the LONGEST interview I have ever gone through.  I have been weighing the pros and cons of that job, vs. the job I'm currently in.  The hours are 9-6, which is going to be a change from my 8-430 hours. The commute is about the same, maybe a few minutes longer, than my current commute...which is fine, especially since it's easy access to major highways to get home.  The pay is much better and the room for advancement is much much better than my current position. My Medical/dental/vision benefits would be paid for IN FULL by the company, with no money out of my paycheck.  Which is great.  I would only have to pay the difference if I add FI (who will be my DH by the time benefits kick in) and my son to the insurance.  Two weeks vacation (off the bat) and 3 personal/sick days.  I can't beat that with a stick! In speaking with FI, he believes I would be happier in the new job and would support me in my decision and change of positions.

Anyhow.  I just got a call offering me the position.  I'm beyond thrilled.  I told them I would call them back in an hour because I needed to discuss it with FI a little bit more.  They understood and said that they will await my call.  When I spoke with my FI he was beyond thrilled for me.  He could tell I was happy because I was bouncing around like a loon after the interview, and practically the past day and a half.  So, we decided I would accept the new position.  I am only putting in a 1 week notice because I am needed to start the position ASAP.  I am a little nervous what the response will be from my boss when I hand her the letter on Monday.  I think she's aware that it is coming, but doesn't know when.  She and the president of the company has been well aware that I've been searching for a new job but haven't had any luck.  Well, little do they know!!!

I must be nuts changing jobs a month and a half away from the wedding.  It'll be good for me.  I know it!!!!

Re: XP: I must be nuts...

  • Congrats to you!  I am sure it won't be challenging but it seems like nothing you won't be able to handle.  I have been job searching the last 8 months too ever since I got engaged for something more local (I live in North Jersey, work in Midtown Manhattan, and my FI/our house is in Monmouth County.  I've been putting off moving in because it is just HORRIBLY long and REALLY expensive to commute from his home to my job.) and I have had no luck.  I stopped about a month ago when things with the wedding were really starting to hit high gear, but once we are back from our Honeymoon at the beginning of April I am kicking full-force in Operation: GET A JOB IN NJ! gear :)  Lucky FI, he works in Red Bank just 15 minutes away from home!

Best of luck on your new path!

  • Thanks! I figured it would be a good thing. More money = less stress on the pocket book. I'm nervous about the resignation though. I've never had to resign from a position as an adult. Heh.

  • I was on a job hunt too and finally landed an excellent job and started on December 18th.  I'm getting married in May and was extremely nervous about the job change.  So far I can't complain.  My boss is super awesome, the pay is 20k more then I was making, and my benefits are amazing.  Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and do what's best for you and your family.  Having the love and support of your FI will make the transition a lot smoother.

    Good luck!!!

I changed jobs two months before my wedding. It was the craziest time. If you aren't already, get super organized, make a detailed checklist of all the things you need to do and do them as far in advance as you can. It's the only way to keep yourself sane and stress free. In the end, you'll be so glad you changed jobs. A few weeks of nuttiness is worth it in the long run. Congrats!

  • I feel there's usually no 'convenient' time for something big like changing jobs! Also, handing in a resignation is hard, at least for me, because I've had mixed feelings both times (happy to get a hew job with better benefits & compensation/sad to leave my coworkers). Just enjoy your advancement, and don't feel bad for working hard to better yourself and your life. Good bosses and coworkers support one another and celebrate accimplishments, even when that means leaving your current role or company.

Best of luck in your new position!
