Ceremony Time

Is 1:45 a weird ceremony time?  It just seems like this will be the best timing for photos, shuttle, getting to cocktail hour etc... but it does seem kinda strange at the same time...

Re: Ceremony Time

  • It is kind of weird; I agree. Any reason 2 or 1:30 wouldn't work just as well?

How do you even word that on a formal invite? Is it three quarters past one?

  • Yes, I would suggest going on the hour or half hour.

  • Yes, strange. Weddings hardly ever start on time. Put 1:30 on your invitations, and don't mind arriving a few minutes late. Most guests expect it. They can't start without you!
  • I have guests traveing from 8 hours away from several directions. We're trying to decide if we should do an afternoon or evening wedding...If we do an afternoon wedding, guests woud have to do 2 nights in a hotel, but if we do the evening one, they would only have to stay one night in a hotel. But people will be super tired if it is in the evening. Any thoughts, suggestions, stories from experience?

Not only did we have an evening wedding but it was also on a Friday and people seemed not to mind.  Ceremony was at 6pm, dinner was at 7:30ish and dancing died around 11/11:30ish.  So I think you will be fine with an evening wedding.

How far out is your wedding?  Since you have guests traveling I would do STD's that way people have a heads up and can make travel arrangements.  We had an aunt that lived over 6 hours away and could not drive at night so she made arrangements to stay at a family members house.  I would also suggest sending your invites 8 weeks in advance to allow time for hotel booking.

  • I heard a great suggestion from a vendor of mine: tell people you're getting married at 1:30, but make the ceremony start at 1:45 because you know there will be stragglers.  Nobody wants to be walking down the aisle the same time as their guests :)
