I think I found the dress but I want to keep looking...

I went wedding dress shopping today with my mom just to figure out some styles that I liked.  I really wasn't planning on buying a dress today because I have a shopping day with the rest of the family planned in February, but I found a dress that I loved!  Do you think it's good to keep shopping just to make sure?  I guess a part of me is afraid that my dress won't be there if I wait a month - is that crazy?  It's David's Bridal, so it's not a super unique one of a kind dress or anything.

  • You can always order it if they sell out!
  • I would say stop looking, so I would cancel the appointment and stop looking at dresses online or in magazines.

  • I would keep the other appointment.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I would keep the other appt. Unless the one at Davids was on clearance or something, it's unlikely that it won't be there next month.
  • The fact that you didn't buy it on the spot and the fact that you still want to look kind of seems like this isn't the one for you. I planned on trying on dozens, but when I put mine on like 7th I was totally done. I knew nothing would ever compare and I had no interest in ever seeing another and immediately bought it. Maybe you're not normally that decisive but I think maybe you should keep looking until one makes you feel that way.

  • I'm definitely going to keep the other appointment. I think I just needed to hear from someone else that the dress would still be around in a month. I can't wait to try it on again :)
  • When I found my dress, I knew I'd need to sleep on it (I actually took 3 or 4 days to commit) to prevent wondering if I really picked the right one.  I'd keep looking around and if you don't love another one as much, this one's the one you should go with.

OP, a lot of brides (dare I say most?) don't have the teary, super-emotional experience when they choose their dress.  Don't feel like you have to wait until you cry (or someone else does) - when you find a dress that looks great and is what you love and fits in the budget, that's it. :)
  • Keep the appt. Dress shopping can be fun, and if you already made plans with family, they may be looking forward to it! You don't sound sure that the David's dress is the one but it is a chain store so I don't think you will risk losing it. I did the same thing, popping into David's to figure out styles, didn't even have an appt, and liked one dress a lot. I almost bought it but wanted to enjoy the dress shopping experience and try a couple other shops. I am so glad I waited and found one that I like a lot better, for the same price.
  • I agree with PP.  I found a dress at david's i really liked too.  I went home that night and couldn't get it out of my head.  However I had an appointment the next day at another salon.  I found two dresses there that I loved and ultimately decided I liked both of them more than the one at David's.  I decided to buy one of those two dresses.  Also, no teary-eyed experience here.  I was shocked at myself for actually deciding on a dress that day.  But I had tried on dozens and it was the most beautiful I tried on.

  • if you have no already done so make apts at other salons for that day of shopping, maybe hit up two places. plan on an hour or so for each apt so space them out accordingly
  • You can give it one more weekend of dress shopping. After that, you can see if you just can't stop comparing the dresses you try on to the one you loved.
