Ceremony start time

I'm having my indoor wedding on a Friday. What would be a good evening start time?

Re: Ceremony start time

  • when we determined our start time. we took into consideration which way windows were facing (west) and when sunset was (6:10) and then asked our photographers what would be best (before or after sunset, they said after) and decided from there. We are having our ceremony at 6:30 pm

  • If you want to ensure that the maximum amount of guests can make it to your wedding after work then I would make it 7pm.  Even later would be better.

  • It is not set in stone, but we have a 6:30 start time for our Friday evening ceremony. I agree that 6:30-7:00 works as a good start time.

Agreed. My sister just got married at 5pm on a Friday and it was so stupid. Obviously I was there on time because I had to take the day off to get my hair done and everything, but a LOT of guests couldn't leave work early and missed the ceremony. They wandered in at cocktail hour or dinner.

  • Definitely check on traffic! Take potential commutes in mind. My cousin didn't do this when she planned her Friday evening wedding in Riverside when the majority of her guests were coming from Orange county. Riverside is popular bedroom community for Los Angeles/Orange County and a town everyone passes through as they leave for Palm Springs or Vegas for the weekend. My whole family left at 4 to make sure we made it to her 6pm ceremony.

  • we had a Friday evening ceremony that started at 6pm. Majority of our guests were traveling anyway so they had to take a day off, but I agree with PPs that if it is more local, the more people would want to not take a off if they did not have to, so start at 630 if you can.  Anything after that might push dinner too late.

  • Thanks! I was considering having a start time of 6 or 6:30.

I think we're going to start our ceremony at 4pm, it's on a Saturday
