I Need Your Ideas!

FI and I are having a hard time coming up with an idea for centerpieces. We have ideas, but we're having a hard time putting them together.  I was gonna post this on a more wedding-related board but I thought maybe some of you ladies might be able to help me out and I trust your opinions more.  We bought 7" lanterns to use and we have wine bottles to use as well.  My first thought was this:

These are our lanterns:

Make a stand from a candle stick and plate and paint them mint green, then place the lanterns on the stands.  They'll have flameless tea lights in them.
image

Surround the plate part of the cake stand/bottom of lantern with baby's breath?
image

Paint and decorate wine bottles and use them as vases and table numbers? Or just table numbers?

Opinions? Any other ideas?

Anyone have any other ideas?

Re: I Need Your Ideas!

  • I think that the idea sounds beautiful! I feel like I would need to see a picture of it put together though. I love lanterns and wine bottles as decorations though.
  • @southernpeach89 thanks! Thats the issue my FI is having - he needs to see a picture of it because he can't picture it in his head. I may have to go buy the supplies and do a mock up.

  • I like the lanterns! I would skip the cake stand/pedestal thing though.

To be honest, I like just having one centerpiece throughout. It depends on your venue though too. Like if you were having your wedding at a winery both would work.

I think @swazzle did something like this with her centerpieces but she painted her wine bottles (correct me if I'm wrong, swazzlebush)

  • I love the latern surrounded by the baby's breath ( also Queen Anne's lace is real pretty, somewhat nicer) I would add a white frame with that for table numbers.

They all are real cute ideas though.

  • I agree with @buddysmom80 I don't think you need the cake stand with the lanterns. Just the lanterns surrounded by the baby's breath sounds really pretty and full. If you really want to incorporate the wine @southernpeach89 made her table numbers with wine corks glued together and tied with twine or ribbon or something and the table number stuck into a slit in the corks. I am having a hard time picturing the two tallish items placed together in an arrangement to be honest.

  • I did lanterns and wine bottles!

I can't find a pic from my actual wedding day of the wine bottles set up but I'll look harder. I attached one from my mock-ups and also a pic of my lanterns. You can kind of see the wine bottle in the background.

  • I actually like the idea of putting the lanterns on the little stands and surrounding with baby's breath. However, idk that you'd ALSO need wine bottle centerpieces in addition to that.

  • You sound like me with my centerpiece ideas.  I'm like "and I want to take this piece of this idea and combine it with this, and this, and this, and this".  I need to figure this out and then I will post a mock up once I get there :)

I'm currently trying to coordinate our escort cards (which are awesome) with centerpieces without using like..baseballs as our centerpieces.  FI doesn't want a sports theme.  Go figure :)
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton

@Swazzle I love the lanterns and wine bottles!

The reason why I was considering putting them on a stand is because the lanterns are so small and the venue has large round tables, I didn't want them to look any smaller. I thought about just going to Hobby Lobby and putting something together there to get ideas.  Like, "don't mind me, I'm just sitting in the aisle making mock centerpieces on the floor."

  • What size tables are you having?  I had all these grand ideas about centerpeices and when I did a mock up, realized that it was too much.  Remember you will need space for plates, silverware and  multiple drinking glasses.  I like the lanterns by themselves or on something less decorative that you can use for height.   Maybe you can add your pops of green with foilage along with the baby's breath?   I'm not sure what your "look" is.  I can't find my original mock up here at work to give you an idea of the difference but this was our centerpeices the day of.

  • @doubless07 I'm not sure the exact size, but they are round tables that seat 8. I was just worried that the lanterns would look too small on the tables since they are only 7" tall. I don't want anything too wide and tall, but I thought 7" might be a little too small. Maybe its not. When we go back to the venue for our catering tasting I will bring a lantern to see what it looks like on the tables.

  • @TwoDimes, @severmill12 - Thanks!

I totally did that in Michaels and AC Moore. I looked like a raging lunatic in those stores.

  • @severmilli12 if you do end up getting your stuff at Hobby Lobby, their sales alternate so don't think if something is 50% off you have to stock up on ALL THE THINGS before the wedding. I was there last Saturday and glassware was 50% so I'm like "shit, get all the votive holders and vases" and the saleswoman told me that if I don't get it all then, in two weeks they'll be on sale again. This week I think floral stuff is on sale, so I'll get a few things for my centerpieces. Last week their wedding stuff was 50% off too because I got my card box for like $12.

They also have 40% off coupons too.

    I <3 Hobby Lobby.

  • What about putting lights in the wine bottles

  • Not much to add, except to echo @doubleSS07's advice. I was at a wedding where the centerpieces were not very big or complicated, but because the tables were small, they were practically in the food. We're going with very small, basic centerpieces even though we have tables that'll seat 10-12, so that people have more room for plates and glasses, and it's easier to talk to people across the table.
