Just saw on ABC a proposal where the bf arranged for the cops to pull him and gf over. Officer handcuffs bf, pats him down while gf watches "helplessly." Then the cop pulls the ring out of bf's pocket and he proposes, all their friends and family rush up to them. Gf told the news it was "the most terrified I've ever been in my life... then the most ecstatic."

The news said it was reminiscent of how they met: at a college party that got busted by the police. Keepin' it classy.

I get that some people like over the top proposals and that's completely fine. But the moment you make other people pay for it you're crossing a line. And ABC probably said how romantic it was - encouraging more people to propose like that.

Ugh I'm sick of everyone seeming to think proposals have to be this giant, gimmicky thing. Can't the fact that you're willing to spend the rest of your life with this person be sweet and meaningful enough?

And don't get me started on wasting the cops' time. For all they know someone was getting mugged while this proposal was going on.

Yep, this rubs me the wrong way for both of these reasons. It perpetuates the MEMEME problems with the huge proposals just starting it off, and what a waste of police resources!!!
