Rocky Neck State Park?

I'm looking into venues for our wedding in June of 2015 and I have a few "neccessities."

We have several children who will be there, so we need something child friendly. We also need somewhere where we can use a caterer that we can work with and I would prefer it to be an outdoor area (with indoor available if the weather decides to be a pain).

I have been looking at Rocky Neck Park but have heard that they may have some strict rules? I see on the website that events can't start until 5pm on weekends which is kind of a bummer but we can work around it.

Has anyone had a wedding there or attended a wedding there that may have some experience to share? Or perhaps a contact I can use?

We already know a caterer that we could work with if we choose there, but we need to know if DJs are allowed, if alcohol is allowed, and anything else that may come up.

Thanks in advance....

Re: Rocky Neck State Park?

  • I've been to a wedding at Rocky Neck yes you are able to have a DJ and a full bar. But I thing you had to stay near the pavilion with the alcohol. The ceremony was outside but the reception was inside I don't think you can have it outside.
  • Two friends of mine got married at Rocky Neck within the last two years. They have a list of caterers that they allow there, so if the caterer that you want to use is not on their list, you cannot bring them in. One of my friends struggled to find a caterer from the list that fit within her budget, but she finally did. I am not sure if you have that list or not yet, but if you don't, I would contact them for it. They definitely have some rules about candles.. I remember my friend mentioning that, but they were allowed to have some, which is more than my wedding venue! They had a DJ and full bar at both weddings, so that shouldn't be a problem.
  • I looked into it but I was turned off by the fact that you can't start until later and even then people don't have to leave the area bc it's a state park. So that means no decorating in the pavilion until early evening and since it's bare as it is that's a lot to do the day of your wedding (unless you have a planner or friends who can decorate while you get ready!!)

I really wanted to book here but when I saw the price of rental if the pavilion plus outside catering, plus the cost of a bar I realized that it was the same as paying a decent priced venue money to do all that us more .

    Good luck!!
  • I booked the pavilion at Rocky Neck for my wedding on October 4, 2014. If you are still interested and have specific questions, feel free to message me. They do have some strict rules but nothing that was outrageous. I have booked most of my vendors already, too.
  • I'm thinking about doing my ceremony and reception at Rocky Neck, in Sept 2015. I am planning on a budget,  so am hoping to keep it as affordable as possible in terms of vendors. I want to bring in my own alcohol, and hire bartenders to serve for us. I also really don't want to compromise food quality, but would like to spend around $60pp. Is this possible?? Any suggestions for vendors in the area would be appreciated!!
  • No vendors are allowed in the Pavilion until 4:00 PM. My DOC was actually talking to me about this venue because I was also considering it, the info she gave me was that it was beautiful, you can have a full bar, DJ, etc and it can be affordable- BUT..guests have to park in the general parking and walk there, there is no AC (but it's fairly cool up there) and the public has access to it until dark. If you do go with them, make sure you either have lots of friends to decorate it- or hire a day of coordinator.
