Transportation

This weekend my fiance and I visited a venue we loved.  We will be having both our ceremony and reception there. The only downside is the nearest hotels are about 10 miles or a 20 minute drive away.  Most of my fiance's family is from 1.5 hours away.  Some will probably stay over but some will probably drive home so they don't have to pay for a hotel room.

Is a 20 minute drive to the hotel too far?
The hotel shuttle will make one trip to the venue and one trip home but that's it.  The shuttle holds 15 people. Is that enough? If I were to make other arrangements for a shuttle, what percentage of your guests used the shuttle?

Basically, I have no idea what to do about transportation.

Re: Transportation

  • I don't think a 20 minute drive to the hotel is too far, but I have a couple of questions:

How many people are coming to your wedding?

How many people do you think will stay at the hotel?

If that number is more than 15 then you need to make other arrangements. If you are going to provide transportation to and from the hotel then you need to make sure that it will accommodate all of your guests who are staying there whether they will use it or not. You can't provide transportation for only 15 people and then leave everyone else to find their own way.

  • For all the guests staying at the hotel, how are they getting to the hotel? Are they all driving? If everyone has a car, I don't think you need to provide transportation if you don't want to--but be aware if it matters to you that means that probably 50% of your guests won't be drinking (or at least, shouldn't be drinking if they're driving).

I think you need to figure out how many people are likely staying at the hotel before you start figuring out what you need for transportation.
  • Our situation was pretty similar to yours and we ended up not providing transportation (it was too expensive). Some folks carpooled between the hotel and the wedding location, and everybody else just drove themselves. It wasn't a problem at all. Remember that your guests are adults and they can take care of themselves!
  • A 20 minute drive isn't too far
  • Thanks everyone!

I should probably wait to see how many people start to book rooms and then I can try to figure things out.
