Should I upgrade table linens?

I told myself - there is no need to upgrade your linens, they are super expensive and guests are really not going to notice...since there's a substantial price difference between the begaline and poly - rationally I would pick the poly..but a part of me is about to get a part time job just to get the upgraded bengaline...

Ladies - did you upgrade your linens? Did anyone (including yourself) even notice or care on the day of?

Re: Should I upgrade table linens?

  • The only time I've ever noticed linens anywhere are if they are dirty, ripped/snagged/torn, or were an awful color. It's a personal choice whether you think they're worth it for you to get an extra job just to pay for them. I personally wouldn't, but that's me.

  • Do you remember what the linens where at any of the past weddings you have been to?  I know I couldn't!

I personally am not spending money to upgrade, although I am paying extra for seat covers. my mom and fmil both made a huge deal about how horrible they thought the chairs where, so i'm spending $5 a seat to cover them because it's better than listening to them....

I consider stuff like this but think about if anyone will care or notice and if the answer is no, then it's not worth the extra money.

  • Egads, no. Unless the linens are full of holes, nobody is going to care one whit about them or even notice them.

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • We had to rent all of our linens so we just picked what we wanted.   Unless the color I wanted wasn't in the standard list I doubt I would upgrade.  Things like upgrading food and beverage would be much higher up in my priorities than lines that are covered up by CP, plates, glasses, etc and people will barely notice.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Thanks Ladies! Those were all my thoughts but its hard to say no when these gorgeous tablecloths are staring at you!

I'm gonna stick with the polyester. :-)
  • Don't waste you time and money! I can't remember a single linen from past weddings unless they are dirty or ripped!

  • As long as the linens are clean and in good condition, no one is going to notice anything else about them.  It's really easy to get caught up in upgrading your wedding -- resist the urge in this case.
  • My venue had ivory polyester linens for us to use. I didn't want those so I went to a rental company and spent an extra $500  on linens even though I could have used the free ones at the venue. I think it's absolutely a personal choice. I had a certain look I wanted that linen polyester wasn't going to accomplish. Nobody is missing out on anything because I spent that extra money on linens though. I agree if you are on a budget then that money could be better spent somewhere else.
