I hate my job with a fire passion. I work 55+ hours a week on a decent, but not worth it salary. The job that I do is so ridiculous I can hardly explain it. I work as a manager in car rental but the actual job is more than one would ever imagine.

Anyway, I've been applying for jobs for months. I found one I thought was perfect. Applied and went through a series of interviews both in person and over the phone. After my final interview they said they hoped to make a selection by mid January. They followed up with me a week later- end of December and said they just finished up interviewing their last (of 3) final applicants and would be in contact either way soon.

Well here it is, the beginning of February and I have heard nothing for a month. I thought it went well every step and they had been great with communication until now. I was going to let it go assuming they went in another direction but they still are showing on their website the position as open. Do I email the hiring manager? What do I say? I don't want to be rude but if they are still considering applicants I'd like them to keep me in mind.

What do you think?

  • I would email the hiring manager.  I would reply to the previous email chain, so s/he can see the previous messages about getting back to you within a week.  The email itself should be short and sweet: "Dear X, Thank you for your time during the interview process.  I enjoyed learning about the position and meeting X, Y, and Z.  If the position is still open, I remain interested and hope to speak with you soon.  Sincerely, Senecaf"

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • Yes, I have emailed and called asking "Just wondering if a decision has been made yet regarding the position?" Perfectly acceptable.

    Good luck!

  • Thank you both! I really want this job. I just didn't know how to approach the situation.
  • Please clear this up for me: You said the contacted you END of January and then you're saying you haven't heard from them in a month. Either I fail at reading or that made no sense.

My bad. That made no sense. Should be end of December.
