Wedding Invitations & Paper

accidentally way over ordered invitations....don't be like me!

So in our infinite wisdom, we ordered an invitation per guest! Sounds great right? Until I started addressing them and it dawned on me that DUH most of our friends/people were are inviting are couples...so that would be 1 invite per 2 people, or more if they have kids.
We pretty much ordered twice as many invitations as we actually needed. Which really sucks because what a waste of money! And now we have a lifetime supply of envelopes that are square lol.
Make sure you take a look at your guest list and count how many invitations you actually will need, don't just take the number of people and order that many!

Re: accidentally way over ordered invitations....don't be like me!

  • We picked up our invites one box at a time in the clearance aisles at random Wal*marts before we had a *real* idea as to just how small we wanted our shindig to be.  We figured it would be better to have too many and donate/resell them afterwards than end up running out.  We now have a ridiculous # of B&W pocketfolds ;)  I've considered reselling the extras, but also think it could turn into an inside joke with FI where I just recycle & dress them up for different future occasions...for the rest of our lives lol.  I mean, B&W goes with everything, right! haha

  • That's pretty much what we were joking about as well! Happy Birthday! Here's a wedding invitation from us! Merry Christmas! Wedding Invite! Hey, we're throwing a birthday party, here's an RSVP card! We're pretty much set for life on square envelopes with our address on them, and little envelopes with a return address to us on them. At least yours are, I take it, blank ones? ours are printed through Wedding Paper Divas.

Yes, they are the print-your-own kits.  I think we have like 7-8 boxes of 25, which is probably 5-6 boxes more than we actually need, even accounting for screw-ups!

ETA:  We found a style we liked and just bought *every* box we came across, one box at a time, lol.  To be fair if we would have actually used most of them if we would have opted for an extended family/lots of friends & clients type of wedding versus intimate :)

  • I did the exact same thing! So now we have a box of wedding invites, rsvp cards, and envelopes sitting in our closet. I'm still thinking up some crafty way to use them as I used a couple in the book I made from all our shower/wedding cards. Good advice to remind others!
  • So glad I came across this! Ordering all of my soon and I would have done the same exact thing!
  • Invitation costs was something I was freaking out about and then my friend was like, you realize you can essentially almost cut that cost in half bc most ppl you are inviting are a unit and get one for both... Right?

BIGGEST sigh of relief I've ever had haha!!

  • I did the same thing with my STDs! I should have really only ordered 100+ something and I ordered 210. Ugh! I won't make that same mistake on our formal invitations.
  • We over-ordered, but only by about 2 dozen (which really didn't cost us that much). Luckily, they're cute and I cut cut part of the design out and attach it to blank note cards to use.

I over ordered by about 20, and that is a fabulous FABULOUS idea!!!
  • It's a bummer that the invitation companies don't have a calulator or something for that! Or at least a reminder, but they probably love it that we all over order lol.

I'll have to figure out a way to reuse them too.
