Snowday tomorrow!

We never, ever close due to the snow however, the owners are already making the decision to close tomorrow. Yay! No driving in the snow, no worrying about being able to get home. I get to stay in bed in my PJs!

Re: Snowday tomorrow!

  • Yay!

I'm taking my laptop home tonight because we'll likely have one tomorrow. However, the management team doesn't decide until their 5:30am call tomorrow, when they'll discuss the road situations in various cities/regions surrounding our office (we have a high percentage of people who commute 30+ mins).

I'm really hoping for a WFH day because FI and I fiiiinally set up my desk in the spare room to turn it into an office/bedroom, and I'm eager to use it :)

  • I hope you get a snowday too!
  • Yay!! We've had 6 snow days in the past 2 weeks. Hopefully no more snow for NC though. Luckily I can work from home so I don't have to make up time. My FI however is a teacher at the same district I work for and has to go until June 13th now and they had Saturday school 2 weeks ago to make up for one day.

  • BTW- my snow days consisted of COD and Wii sports. It was a blast. Being at work this week is so hard since I haven't really worked in 2 weeks :(

  • Hurray for snow days! Living where I do in Western NY, it's rare that anyone closes outside of schools. So as much as I'd love a snow day tomorrow, it's very unlikely that it'll happen. However, I may bring my laptop home tonight and make sure my work phone is charged so I can maybe ask for a WFH day (I have a 30+ commute, all backroads - ugh).
  • I'm getting sick of the snow. We've had 5 snow days so far and are looking at another 2 this in the next week and a half.

  • My company does not close but I'm allowed to bring my laptop home and work from home or bring my laptop home and come in here at noon when the roads are clean. I just started at this job a few months ago and I'm trying to make a good impression so I've been coming in on snow days. FI is not salary like me so he must be there on time or he gets written up, it's ridiculous.

  • If we have another snow day I am going to cut someone.

For all those who get to experience the true joy of a snow day and you normally don't get to- congrats!  The first time (or two) is a blast!

My students come in after snow days/weekends looking as if they don't know who I am or where they are.  Since I started teaching a few years ago, we hadn't had a single snow day, but now BAM we have a kazillion.

  • I think the last time I had a snow day before this was in 2009.
  • We've had at least 5 snow days this winter season. Basically, if we end up under a severe weather alert for the area and/or schools in the region close, and the commute is considered treacherous, then they'll call it.

It's been a long time since we've had a winter this bad, save for one giant storm last year.

  • Yay.   We were just upped to 8-10+ from 5-7 early this morning.   I work from home so no snow day for me.   DH of course has to go in.  No such thing as closing a hotel due to snow.

Our TV is scheduled to come today.  I hope it gets here before the snow starts which looking at the radar is only an hour or so away,

  • I would love a snow day right about now. But I work from home, so unless the weather took out our power and phone lines, and made it impossible for me to find a coffee shop/hotel to work from, and the cell networks went down, I'd still have to work.

I just want a change from all the rain we've been having. Stupid South Africa, don't you know it's supposed to be summer?!

  • @Urbaneca - I didn't know you are from SA.    DH just told me this morning that if he gets this new job he will take me back.  It's where we spent part of our HM.

  • @lyndausvi Yep, SA born and raised. It's a great country which is sadly plagued by stupid, dirty politics, and probably will be for many decades to come. Still, home to some of the most beautiful landscapes on earth! What part/s did you visit?

  • We just went to Ulusaba up in Sabi Sands area.    Next time we will add in Cape Town and maybe something else.

I may be biased because I live here, but if you have the time/opportunity you should definitely check out the Eastern Free State. It's absolutely gorgeous. There's more than 180 accommodation places just in the town we live in, there's plenty of places to stay in the Golden Gate National Park (where FI proposed), and there's the Basotho Cultural Village which is very cool. If you visit in early summer, there's a cherry festival. If you visit in late summer, there's a beer festival. And we're a haven for artists, so there's all kinds of galleries and stuff to visit too! ;)

  • Yay!  The only thing better than a snow day is knowing about a snow day in advance.  Enjoy :)

@climbingbrideny you're in NYC right?  Are we expecting more snow tomorrow?  I thought it was coming this weekend..

I'm right outside of NYC. They're calling for another 6-10" tonight into tomorrow and then sleet and freezing rain.

Wow.  Okay thanks!  Sounds like just enough to close my school (again..).
  • @urbaneca This is off topic but since you were talking about SA- have you been to Madagascar? I am from the US but have always wanted to go there!

  • I sort of want a snow day tomorrow, but I sort of don't. My office is warmer than my apartment. We ran the space heater A LOT so far this winter, and I know our electric bill is going to be about 3x what it normally is. =/

Our neighbors must crank the heat because we will go DAYS without turning it on and it's still 69-70 in here.   The only reason I put it on now is the new TV arrived and it's so cold I have to bring it down to room temp before setting it up.  I figured I would help the process out a little by turning up the heat a little.

  • We got sent home early from school due to the threat of incoming freezing rain. It hasn't started yet, but I'm sure everybody was nervous about getting stuck in a situation like Atlanta was. If we get the snow and ice they are predicting, we might not have school the rest of the week...

(And we've already had 12 snow days this year...)
  • We  have no control over our heat other than vents being opened or closed. The complex decides when the heat turns on and off for the season (we don't pay for heat, it's included in our rent). Unfortunately, the way our buildings are set up, our apartment has 3 exposed sides with another unit above us and a pair of units butted up against one set of walls (we're the short side of an L). We get hit with all the wind but get very little sun because the other side of the L blocks it. Oh, and we're the last building on our heating line so most of it is lost before it hits us anyway or gets lost due to draftiness. We had the heaters on 2 weeks ago just to keep the place above 60*!!

  • Well that started fast! One minute it was doing nothing, then I looked back up and the road is covered. It's coming down hard...
  • ours was to start around 2.  Nothing yet
