Anyone not like any of the food at their tasting?

I'm totally jumping the gun on this because it's not something we'll even be doing for another half a year, but I'm worried that I won't like any of the food at our tasting. We were told we can pick three or four things from their menu to taste. What if we don't like any of what we picked?

I asked our event coordinator what we would do if that happened, and he said he would release us from our contract and refund our deposit because he wouldn't be confident that they could exceed our expectations. Um... totally not the answer I was hoping for. I was hoping he'd say something like, "Well, if you don't like the four options you chose, then you can choose some others to taste."

I know I'm probably worried over nothing and the food will most likely be great, but has this happened to anyone?

  • I hadn't been worried about that because I researched venues that were known for having great food before even visiting them (much less booking them).  The event coordinator might have responded the way he did because their food is fantastic and he never hears complaints...maybe he assumes you know this and feels you'll be impossible to please?

I do find it odd that you're not able to taste everything on the menu.  You should be allowed to sample a bit of everything before deciding what will be served on your wedding day, not just 3 or 4 items.

  • Sounds like you're stressing out unnecessarily. I know it's a concern of yours (and a valid one), but don't freak out just yet. It could be amazing or it could be ho-hum.

Have you searched for reviews of the place? I bet there are some out there that touch on the taste and quality of the food.

When you do taste it, bring someone with you who has a strong knowledge of cooking. When my aunts (who have a strong knowledge of cooking) did a tasting with the caterer for my cousin's wedding, they weren't very pleased with the appetizer. They went over notes with the caterer, who improved the dish to make it delicious for the wedding. It was one of the most talked about things on the menu! Don't be afraid to tell them if something sucks and you expect better (in a nice way, of course.)
