Tux Help!

We decided to buy tuxes for all the guys in the wedding. I got an amazing deal at Macy's, it came to $90 for each one!  Can't beat that!  Anyways, I'm just gathering all the accessories now and I need an opinion.  My dress is ivory, a true ivory, not just off white.  I really think the guys need to wear ivory shirts or it might clash, what do you guys think?  Has anyone purchased ivory french cuff shirts because I'm having a really hard time finding them in stores.

Re: Tux Help!

  • NOOOO!!! Ivory shirts look so dingy with a black tux. Men's dress shirts are meant to be white - it's classic.

The white shirt and your ivory dress will look perfect. You'll be in a beautiful color that looks great on your skin and your FI will be wearing a sharp black tux and white dress shirt. Don't stress about it at all.

  • I honestly don't think it will be a huge deal. A lot of attention can be pulled by what color tie they are wearing so it may be easier to get something that stands out more in a tie for each of them than to find the color of shirt you are looking for. However, no one will notice that your dress is not 'as white' as their shirts. Ivory is a more popular choice for brides now, I'm sure people will not think it takes away from you at all.
  • They will be wearing black ties, no vests and I wasn't planning on cumberbund's either.  Look's like white it is, I always freak out about stupid little things!  haha

  • We did ivory shirts and I think they looked nice (my dress was champagne and husband wanted brown tuxes). They don't look dingy in the photos. So we had the fathers do ivory too even though they were in black so that they would all blend nicely in family photos. My dad already owned a tux but not an ivory shirt, so he rented an ivory shirt for $12.00 from the tux shop.
  • I think Ivory shirts might look ok with Champagne, but not an ivory gown. Crisp white shirts look best with black tuxes.
  • White shirts are traditional with tuxedos.  My daughter had an ivory dress, and her groom wore a white shirt with his black suit.  It looked great!  Don't stress over this.  White looks fine with an ivory dress.

You need either a cummerbund or a vest to cover the top of the pants, which are worn without a belt. I like black best. Otherwise, they might as well wear suits.  Now THIS is something you should be concerned about!

  • agree to stick with white!  We tried an ivory and white shirt with our tux's and the white looked so much cleaner compared to my ivory dress.
