I'd love some dress fitting reassurance!

Thanks to getting measured for my wedding dress, I now know why finding any normal dress is pure torture. My hips are a size 6, my waist is a size 4, and my bust is a size 12. Way to not be a team player, boobs! Since it's easier to take away fabric than add, I agreed with their recommendation of ordering a size 12. But for everywhere else, I'm so afraid that alterations will make the dress not look as a nice as a dress needing less alterations. Can some of you who have been there and done that tell me that with a great tailor, you'd never know how many alterations a dress actually had? The dress is a satin fitted with a fishtail. No beading, but it does have some detailing with the way the fabric is cut. My mom helped me buy my dream dress, so it's terrifying to think about how it might be cut and altered to death. The salon we bought it from has a great reputation, so they know what they're doing, right?! :)

  • Get your dress altered where you bought it. They are familiar with that dress and the alterations for that dress. Have trust in the staff that they wouldn't have had you order a size 12 if the rest of the dress would have been compromised. I'm thinking positive for you that if it would have been compromised, they would have said we're sorry but to get the dress to fit you right, the alterations would change the look of the dress.

This made me laugh! I'm right there with you...my boobs are a 20, my waist a 14, my hips a 10.  Hooray for being gravitationally impossible!

Have faith, trust the professionals and allow them to do what they do best :).  You will be beautiful!
  • Thanks, ladies! I am letting them do the alterations since I know they've probably sold and had to alter the same dress before. My MOH reassured me by telling me her other best friend bought a sample size dress and had it altered down to a size 2. I just need to relax and trust it'll be amazing. Or I should just start eating pizza and ice cream every night to make it fit better...probably not the better option.

  • relax they know what they are doing.
i am a street size 20-22 the sample was a 22 it fit in the hips but on top it would not go all the way over my boobs. my boobs are small but even the dress on the hips was tight i was measured and i measured at a 5 inch difference than the sample in the waist but larger in the bust size. according to the size chart i was a 28 but since it was only 5 inches difference we went with the 26. I had fears of it not fitting dress came in it came in and it fits like a glove on the bottom and is big on top the sides need to be taken in and the length needs to be hemmed i have a corset back and i was laced as tight as it could be and still was big on top
  • I was in the exact same boat. Bust size was 10, hips was a 6 and waist was a 4. I ordered the 10 because I feared the boobs not fitting.  I had them do the alterations and it was very easy to take it in where needed.  I had talked to their alterations the day I tried on the dress originally just to get the reassurance that the dress could get altered easily w/o having to do reconstruction.

  • I was a 12 in the waist, 14 in the hips and a 20 in the bust. I ordered to 20 and had it fitted everywhere else.
