Anyone make sushi at home?

The whole rolling with the bamboo mat was impossible for me, never stayed together. I found this product on Amazon that's like a little plastic tube that makes the perfect roll every time!! It's so freakin easy. I don't know if I'm allowed to post the name because I'm not advertising for them or anything but I can message it to you if you want. Seriously for $20 it's AMAZING. We now make sushi for dinner at least once a week and it's so cheap compared to going out.

In mine I always do raw ahi tuna, avocado, and spicy mayo topped with sesame seeds. FI always does his cooked shrimp, cucumber and mayo. And we don't bother with the internet recipes for "sushi rice" that say to use a certain grain and rinse it 5 times and all that jazz. We literally use instant white rice and it still comes out great, we add the rice vinegar and sugar like you're supposed to but the first try we didn't and it was fine!

  • Can I love you forever for the rice tip? What is your recipe if you don't mind sharing? I never done sushi rice before and have it turn out right.

  • Please message me the product! I can use the mat no problem after taking Japanese for 3 years I'm HS, but its a pain so I almost never make sushi.

  • My brother and SIL use to work for a sushi restaurant and they are good at rolling sushi. I am just good at ordering it.

  • Message me too please! I made sushi once and it worked fine but just took forever!

2 cups water, bring to boil, add 2 cups instant white rice. Reduce to low, cook for about 8 minutes, stirring halfway through. In a saucepan (or microwave) mix 1 tablespoon plain white cane sugar, 1 tablespoon salt, and 2 tablespoons rice vinegar until sugar is melted and it's smooth not grainy. Stir into rice and put rice in fridge to cool because the rolls don't work well if it's hot.

@afox007 That's awesome, I wish my high school had Japanese! I have been to Japan and it's amazing!
