hotel prices during conventions?

Hello, I'm new here :)

I'm trying to set a date for my wedding in May 2015, and as I'm not very familiar with Vegas, was wondering how much are hotel prices affected by major conventions? There are a few dates I like, one is on 14th, but the following Sunday 17th convention starts for 30K. Do you guys think hotels will be already very expensive a few days before? We are looking to get a large suite for our party so cheaper prices are important. Thanks

Welcome and congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

Have you considered setting up a room block with your preferred hotel. This will lock in a rate for you and your guests right up til a month before your wedding date.

We have blocked rooms at Planet Hollywood and booked a few large suites at the Elara.

Mandalay Bay is also a great hotel for room blocks and large suites.

Which chapel/venue have you booked for your wedding?

    Thanks :)

We've only just changed plans from the big home wedding in UK to a small Vegas wedding a week ago, so haven't chosen or booked ANYTHING yet, just started looking at different options. Room blocking is a good idea but I think we would only need a maximum of 12 rooms and might end up less so I don't know if it would work.. I'm more worried about the suite price, because I want an amazing suite for the party and don't want to end up paying extra or downsizing because of a major event?

With most room blocks it is a minimum of 5 or 10 rooms. If you dont fill them they get released. Its best not to enter into a room block where you will have to pay for any unbooked rooms though.

    Hello,
I got married on 01/18/14. It was a three day weekend and the porn convention was at the Hard Rock the same weekend. I think rates were a little more expensive, but not too bad. I would just book far enough in advance, or get a block as others have suggested.

There might no be much difference if you book far in advance. I booked ten months in advance for my wedding in July 2013 and didn't notice any difference in room prices considering it was 4th of July weekend, someone has just posted about rising room rates for this 4th of July so booking quite far in advance seemed to help. I'd try to book as so as rooms are available. I booked Glasgow - London - Vegas via Expedia and was fairly pleased with the price.

Hi ladies, thanks for all the advice, called MGM today to find out a quote for the skyline terrace suite and they said they book only 6 month in advance, so I'll have to be very patient and wait until mid December until I can book, that's so long... I want to start booking things already :)
