I'm soo upset my engagement ring is far too big for me but I can't send it bAck to be resized because appArently I'm in between sizes and I'm worried it's going to fall off and I've tried the ring gripper things but they don't stay on and they cause my skin to get all blotchy looking. Someone please help!!!!

Take it to a different local jeweler to be sized. Most jewelers can resize a ring for you. Not sure about your area, but here its only $25-50 to have the jeweler resize a ring purchased elsewhere.
  • Don't take it to a mall jeweler.  They just send it out to somebody who does the work for them.  Take it to a local jeweler who does his own work in house.  He can advise you.

  • Any reputable jeweler really should be able to resize it for you. Being "in between" sizes shouldn't matter. My ring is a size 4-3/4, no big deal.

  • Isn't that expensive?

  • It shouldn't be expensive at all.  If you are that worried about the cost, take it to a couple of places so you can compare.  But you should definitely use a local jeweler.

You won't know until you ask them.  Go to a local family-owned jeweler in your area, not a chain store.  They will be able to resize your ring for you on premises.

  • It shouldn't be expensive unless they have to do serious structural work on the ring. And even then, it shouldn't be outrageous. I think the last time I had to resize a ring where they had to adjust the setting of the stones, it was only around $50 at my local guy.

  • I'm going with arthritic balls, also called sizing beads, to help size my ring. They are a little more expensive, but it doesn't take any of the gold from my ring out to size it. I like that idea better, but not everyone does.

The picture is one I found online. It's not my ring.
  • It's only expensive if they have to add metal (if your ring is too small). Regardless, it's cheaper than losing your ring because it doesn't fit!
  • I also have the sizing beads on my ring. To get my size, Fi used a ring in my jewelry box that was too big. He had the ring custom made as one piece, so I felt bad having to cut into it. Our jeweler (who made the ring himself) suggested the sizing balls because it allowed us to make it smaller without cutting and they're removable. I don't feel them at all and they are not noticable when it's on my finger.
  • I definitely agree with everyone else's responses. Take it to a local jeweler and I wouldn't worry about the cost too much because you want it done right. Also, what happens if you don't get it done because of the cost and you lose not only your ring, but the sentimental memories along with it. You'd be losing so much more. I think you'd just be better off getting it re sized no matter the cost which really should not be that expensive.

@AshleyNicole1218 does it stay on comfortably? I have several family rings that are too big for me, but I don't want to get the gold taken out. That sounds like a great option.

  • @lalalaurita yes, the ring feels no different than if it was sized properly! My fingers fluctuate a lot in different weather...my fingers get a lot thinner in very cold weather and kind of bloated in warm, and the beads make it comfy during all weather seasons. They can also be removed if needed. They were a bit pricey, I think about $150 for the two beads, but it was worth it to us to not cut the ring. It looks exactly like the picture Molly posted above. The beads cannot be seen when the ring is on.

I'd recommend talking to an independent jeweler (not a big chain like Zales or Helzbergs) and checking out your options.

    Good luck! :)
