FFS, USAirways....

I am supposed to go to Denver this weekend for my niece's baptisim and other niece's 2nd birthday. My whole family is there, including my other little baby niece, FI is the God father. USAirways cancelled all flights out of JFK and won't let us re-book online. I have been trying to call for a solid hour and nobody picks up.

Now it feels like there is no chance I can make it to Denver and I am really sad. Plus, I am just pissed off at having to deal with the snow and nasty mess.

Ugh, I really hate winter.....

Re: FFS, USAirways....

  • That sucks.  Sorry.

In USAirways  defense, all their major hubs are shut down.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • That really sucks that you might not make it out there with your family, I'd be bummed too.

As a side note, though, you are aware something like 6000 flights were cancelled today, right?

  • lyndausviSwazzle oh, I am aware. I am just being a whiney baby about it. I know it isn't about me but it really sucks.

They also just don't have any answers or information on their website. Which is not ok.

I work for a corporate travel agency (I'm not a travel agent) and the agents who are trying to get clients re-booked have reported hold times of FIVE HOURS with some airlines, and that is for the special agent hotline.

It sucks, but it is the weather not US Airways.

  • Ugh that's frustrating. I'm sorry. Hugs.

Almost all flights out of Atlanta were canceled yesterday and a bunch of my friends were supposed to fly out to Houston for a conference, but they were able to get onto flights today when the ice was cleared. Hope you are able to get something soon!

I am fully aware of the fact that the weather is bad, but that doesn't excuse their customer service and it doesn't change that I may not make it to Denver.

Rndom questions - If they cancel your flight do you get a refund if you want it instead of flying on the next available? You know, since you might miss the baptism by the time they can get you out.
    ~xoxo~

  • photokitty, that is what I would hope. We spent a lot of money on these tickets and if we can't get there, I just want my money back.

At least one USAirways hub is open!! It's a beautiful 82 degrees here in Arizona :)

OP- sorry to hear you are having trouble. I got stuck recently at a USAirways hub because of snow.

  • That does suck, I'm sorry! On the off chance you actually make it here, it's supposed to be a beautiful 60 degree weekend in Denver.

(...excuse me while I run and hide from all the rotten tomatoes those of you freezing your asses off are throwing my direction...)

Yeah, my brother said it is gorgeous. Not only do I want to see my family, but I want to get out of the hell hole that is NYC right now. I stepped in a muddy, slushy pool of muck that came halfway up my shins earlier.

LOL I know I'm not the only knottie from PHX!

I am sure the tables will turn come July!

  • Oh no! I'm really sorry to hear that. The weather here in NYC is pretty crappy, I hear ice now on the windows. I was watching the news this morning, and there was a family from florida whose flight was cancelled, so they decided to rent a car instead, and drive down! In this weather! I hope by some miracle you do get on that flight though, Sending positive vibes your way!!

Thanks. After 5 hours on the phone I was basically laughed at and told no way in hell was I getting there. I'm so sad to miss my family :(

  • Write them an email.

Although I know it's not you and not them, if you can get a voucher from it then why not!

Just explain your frustration and state that USAirways was unwilling to adjust your travel arrangements and that you are disappointed in the level of customer service.

    Bam. $150 credit.

We got a full refund and I don't want their credit because I have no intention of ever flying with them again. I get that the weather is out of their control and I can't IMAGINE working for the airlines right now, but their customer service was just inexcusable.

  • You can always give a credit to a friend too. That's what I did (mainly because it'll expire before I an use it).
  • Sorry to hear that. We are heading to Costa Rica tomorrow for our honeymoon and yesterday I was notified that our flight was cancelled! After an hour on hold and another hour arguing, United rebooked us on a flight with another airline. I'm still concerned we won't make it out but I'm crossing everything I have and praying.
  • What kind of customer service were you looking for? I mean I am sure they are doing the best they can regarding the number of flights cancelled and that upwards of 200 people (if not more depending on the plane) are on each flight and need to be rebooked or refunded. I really could not imagine working for the airlines this winter.

I would agree, except for getting laughed at would cross the line for me.

On the flip side, US Airways has bent over backwards for me and given me greta customer service in the past. But one bad apple can definitely ruin my opinion of a company. :)

I don't think it is too much to ask for to have customer service representatives be polite to you. After spending 5 hours on the phone, the least they could do is say "we are sorry for your wait, but we are experiencing larger than normal call volume" and not "well, this is the south and you just clearly don't understand we aren't prepared" also "there is nothing we can do" is not enough- I get that things are out of their control, but it doesn't hurt to say "we appreciate your patronage and are sorry for this incident but hope you will fly with us again"
