NWR: Gift advice?

I've just knitted my sister a cowl.  She's the type of person who wears accessories like that, the yarn was on sale and I picked out her favorite color.  I had an awesome pattern (CLICKY) in my ravelry.com queue so I just started working and didn't stop until it was done.  To be honest, I thought I'd probably set it aside after I started and pick it up in time for Christmas.  Of course, now the weather has turned warmer both where I live and wear she lives so she wouldn't really need a cozy cold-weather cowl until maybe next fall.  I can give it to her for her birthday (July) or I can keep it until Christmas (which seems a little too far away).  Would it be weird to gift a cold-weather accessory in the middle of the summer?  We don't really do spontaneous gifts but I usually just make up some jewelry for her which is a whenever gift.

  • She's in Colorado so it does get a bit chilly...I just wasn't sure if it would be odd to get something so very wintery in summer.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't just give it now. It doesn't have to be a fancy presentation, just "Hey I made this for you." She may still get some use out of it yet this winter.

ETA: that's a really nice cowl btw. Makes me wish I knew how to knit!

I'm in Southern Ontario, Canada, which can have a similar climate to much of the northern US, and I would definitely love a cowl year-round :)

Did you just call Denver, northern US? :) hehe. That is silly to me because I lived in Moscow, Idaho for four years and Portland, Oregon. And I wouldn't even consider Portland Northern US (though denver winters are worse than portland winters for sure)   (all said in a friendly tone of course!)

  • It would have to be a bit of a presentation just because I don't anticipate seeing her anytime soon so it would arrive in the mail.  I saw the pattern and queued it because it looked fun.  I got my hands in the Cozy Wool I'm using for it and I put it on the top of my project pile.  Knitting's not too difficult if you know someone you can watch do it.  It is a little awkward to try to pick up from the Internet though.  I know most of the craft stores around here have classes for at least basic knitting (including the one I work for).

Haha no, I didn't mean it like that! I should have rephrased haha

Our company has an office in Broomfield, CO, so I definitely know that the state is not considered northern haha. I was just giving my opinion on the fact that based on the climate we have here (which is comparable to states that are actually in the north), I would love a cowl.

  • @blueeyes90 : I think she was just hinting that I should knit her something and send her a cowl... (just kidding, @pumpkinsandturkeys ) :)
  • Hahaha well, if you wanted to, I wouldn't object ;) FI, however, is protesting any new additions to my wardrobe -- even those meant to keep me warm (and stylish! Haha)
