DIY Invitations-Wording Help

Hi everyone!

I'm in dire need of some help on my wedding invitations.

I'm having a formal to black tie wedding, and am not very fond of the wording options I've found online.

Fair warning, I know some of these seem dark, but it's not the "feel" I want to give off.

Here's what I currently have, with the parts in italic being the ones that don't quite work for my fiance and I:

"With joyous hearts

Name and Name

Invite you to share in their day of celebration

As best friends become husband and wife

Date Time

Location"

 

I'm looking for quotes that reflect the following (especially what's in bold):

Thank you all for your help and understanding!

 

PS: I'm ideally looking for something deep, sincere and enjoyable to read on one level, but that is deeper and more enjoyable if analyzed.  This isn't a requirement, but would be nice.   Thank you again.

If you're having a formal to black tie wedding, you really need to stick with traditional wording and not try to find quotes to throw in.

To be honest, most recipients of wedding invitations are looking for the logistical information: names, when, where.  If this information is buried in the "feel" you want to give off, you're wasting the time of your guests in having to read through extra information to get at the basics that they need.

I agree with this.  Invites should be simple, short and to the point.  To many words and poems and such will just add clutter and unnecessary things for your guests to have to read nor will they really care about it.

A wedding invitation is a simple note from the hosts to the guests, telling them who, what, when and where - not why.  It is not a good place to express your personal feelings, especially if you are having a very formal wedding.  You can use the poetry and sentimental feelings in your ceremony or in your wedding program - even at reception toasts.  The invitation is not a good place to do this, and it will confuse some of your guests.  It is not clear from your wording that you are inviting people to your wedding ceremony.

Honestly, I would snicker if I got an invitation with some of that poetry on it!  It just isn't the right place to do this.

I don't think people are looking to analyze an invitation, they want specifics.

If you want quotes that are important to you, I would recommend incorporating them into the ceremony. Invitations are for conveying information about the location, time, and formality of an event. Poetry is not necessary and may confuse people.

(FWIW, "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" is also my parents' song and I think it's extremely sweet, as they got married when they were older and really will be together the rest of their lives. But it wouldn't seem right on an invitation.)
