Where is everyone?

I figured this board would start hopping with everyone finishing up plans for their spring/summer weddings.  Is no one getting married in Columbus this year?  :)

  • On a side note…OMG I am loving my lunch. If you work downtown i highly recommend Si Señor! So freaking fantastic!! :-9

  • I am at a planning wall. I don't know what to do next. I've decide to make my dress but since I work so much that is a weekend project.

I can't wait for spring! I am being overly ambitious possibly but I'm planning on growing my flowers. I got a seed catalog in the mail yesterday and then the sun came out today so I'm itching to get started.

There are not a lot of Columbus ladies on the boards it seems

I usually gets pretty decent traffic but the last month or so has been soooooooooo slooooooow.

Making my own dress would make me a nervous wreck, but I have no skills/training.  Growing my own flowers would have been more probable, but still stressful.  I didn't want to do too much DIY, I would rather pay other people to execute my vision (which was a smashing success).

my sister ordered fed flowers from Kroger a week before the wedding. So keep Graceland and German Village Krogers in mind if the flowers don't come up. I just can't say enough about how cheap there were. We were going to grow the baby's breathe but I decided I would rather grow blue potatoes…blue potatoes are the bomb dot com!!

Making my own dress…no way! You go! I did however make my own veil :)
    Here's some pics…the only one's I've posted on TK…so feel special ;-p

  • @photokitty  I can only see a little of your dress, but I love it!

We (H mostly) designed our invites and some bible verse signs.  He copied some inspiration pictures I had and we had them printed at Office Depot (invites) and Meijer (posters).

I made our escort cards out of pine cones and wood chips and printed the cards on our home computer.

The only other "DIY" we did was I bought sola flowers and fillers for some apothecary jars I bought.

sorry, they are smaller than I thought they'd end up being. You get the idea ;)

  • I love that veil! And thank you @photokitty for sharing your pictures. I feel so special!

I'm pretty confident in the dress making. I'm making it with my grandmother and it's kind of family tradition. I have 6 months. The flowers could be a disaster though. Back up plan is to buy grocer bouquets and skip other florals. The paper things intimidate me though!
  • Thanks everyone! I forgot my fav…

now I'm being an AW! :-p

  • Since no one but us seem to be hanging out I saw we all be AWs together.  :)

This one is my favorite of the two of us...

  • I'm finalizing picking out cake and flowers... I have my dress, veil, venue, photo booth, photographer, and DJ.  I love my dress, but Wendy's and I had a disagreement over which size to order. They insisted the measurements said I was a size 14 (true) but I insisted every other dress I have tried on fit as a size 12.  They ordered a size 14 anyway.  Guess what? It's huge.  It barely stays up without me holding it.  And we're only 8 lbs into a 30 lb weight loss.  Which they knew. I sure hope they can alter it this much :-/

I would have them order you a new one if they ordered a different size than you wanted to order.  That is THEIR fault, not yours.  They should have made you sign something acknowledging that you were ordering a size against their recommendations...

  • I don't really know much about wedding dress sizing and how it works.  I wanted to order a size smaller than what my measurements showed because I was planning on losing a decent amount of weight.  They told me the measurements measured up with a size 14 (true) and that no matter how much weight I lost, my ribcage wouldn't get smaller (true) and that my designer tended to run small (hence the 14 over the 12).  I believed them.  So I agreed to order the 14.  It's just really big on me!! How much can they alter dresses? It's a big poofy ballroom type gown.

The good news is that altering down is easier than altering up.  I think that the limit is about 2 (possibly) three sizes before it can start messing with the structure of the dress.

  • @foreverlaur the dress should still be ok. My problem would be that the alterations might be more extensive and therefore more expensive. I would see if maybe they can work with you on that.
  • My dress shop sold a discontinued size 14 to a size 4 bride bc she really wanted the dress. She had it taken in 10 sizes, it wasn't cheap and wasn't easy, but they said it can be done and the dress turned out great - I saw a pic. Your dress won't be to bad, just get a good seamstress and you'll be fine :)

I had a BMs dress taken in that literally fell off me bc they insisted I order 3 sizes too big, it turned out fine - but I made the shop pay fort he alterations bc I ordered what the told me not what I wanted. They even measured me again to make sure I hadn't lost a ton of weight in between - I was the same exact size. This is a now closed shop with the worst service in the world!! :-p

  • Anyone know if the seamstresses at Wendy's are good - should I use them? Or does anyone have another seamstress to recommend?
  • I used Linda Hammond in Hilliard.  Reasonable pricing (just be sure to ask for a complete list of fees/charges before she starts work) and good work.

She altered my neckline (straight strapless to sweetheart), let the side seams out, hemmed the dress all around and shortened and tightened the sleeves on my lace bolero.

  • I see Linda's name every where I look.  She has to be one busy woman!  (good for her)  She took in a bridesmaid dress for me and it was perfect and really really reasonable pricing.
I love looking at all the pics you are posting.  So, post away!  I smile at each one.
  • Thanks for the tip about Linda!
  • I'm done with all my big stuff.  All that's left are little details - table numbers, finishing favors, programs, seating arrangements, etc.  Invitations went out on Monday, so I'm anticipating the RSVPs  beginning to trickle in.

btw, this is my first post! Wedding is May 24th in Westerville, reception is the the Athanaeum downtown.
  • Hi I'm here don't forget me. My wedding isn't till November and I'm trying to book a photographer who is decent priced and someone we really like their work. Unfortunately all the decent priced, good work are already booked. Never realized November was such a hot month to get married

    What is your budget?
    photo composite_14153800476219.jpg
  • The very tip top we can spend is maybe $1200 but that is pushing it and I have to really love the work to consider spending that much. I'd rather stay $1000 or under.
  • Hmmm...  Our photographer is more than that and the least expensive one we considered was about $1,600.  I wish I could be of more help!

  • Yeah, sorry I don't have any recs under $1K. I'd check for students at CCAD or OSU's photojournalism/ art dept. You can sometimes get a student pretty cheap, but they probably won't have any/much wedding experience. You won't get an experienced photog in that range, but you could still get someone who will do a good job. As a photog myself, I didn't want to pay a ton for someone I do, but I didn't find anyone under $2K in Cbus I was willing to trust with the day. I wish it was more affordable, but they have to eat and pay their mortgage too I guess :-p

    GL! :)

  • A friend of mine used JoAnn for her daughter's senior pics .... and they were very happy.  New company maybe equals not as expensive?  Might check it out.

  • Being that were on such a limited budget I've reached out toall sorts of photographers. II'm actually meeting with someone based out of Cincinnati next weekend. I'm also picky so that doesn't help at all. Thankfully we only need the photographer for 4 hours and it's in November so some photographers are willing towork with us and give us some sort of discount. still sucks we can't afford more... :/
