Mismatching groom/groomsmen suits

Hi Everyone
The men will be wearing navy suits for our June wedding and my fiance wants to purchase a more expensive designer suit to wear. We obviously don't want the groomsmen to have to spend a lot of money on their suits but still want them to appear to be the same. Any idea what would be the best way to pull this off especially since "Navy" can vary so much.
Thanks for the help!

Re: Mismatching groom/groomsmen suits

  • Groomsmen do not have to match in color.  The rule is that if the groom wears a suit, the groomsmen should also wear suits.  If they are all in dark suits, that will be fine.

  • I agree, it is perfectly fine for the groom to be wearing something different from the groomsmen. Our groomsmen will be wearing charcoal suits while FI will be in black. As long as they are complementary and at the same level or formality it should be fine.
  • A great way to tie them all together is with white shirts, ties in the same color or pattern, and matching boutonnieres.
  • You could have them just wear whatever suits they already own.  Example:

Or, maybe the groomsmen could find another navy suit (maybe not the exact same tone as the groom's if you look super closely) that is in their budget.  Example:
