Alterations to Allure 8800

Does anyone know if the Allure Bridal 8800 dress can be altered so the lace overlay has thinner straps like a spagetti strap? I know it's beautiful lace but I really don't want that thick of a strap so is it possible to cut the straps and make them thinner?

  • I don't claim to know anything about sewing or alterations, so I may be wrong. But, at first glance it looks like the lace is very integral to the dress design and changing it may be impossible. I was looking up images of the dress to get a better idea and one for this dress came up.

It's similar, though the lace is not quite as pronouced on it and it has a thin illusion strap with some lace detailing. I know it's not the same dress as you were asking about, but it might be a compromise?

I hope others can give you better advice on the lace. I really don't know, but it doesn't look possible to my unskilled eyes.

  • From looking at the dress, especially the back, I just don't see how making the straps thinner can work since the lace is attached to mesh fabric.  I mean maybe the lace on the outer portion of the straps (meaning the piece that forms the v shape) can be cut away leaving the rest but that is something that you really need to ask a seamstress.

If you want thinner straps then why not find a dress that already has them.  Like this one...http://www.allurebridals.com/products/8856
