Work vent. [NWR]

Jesus. All I do is complain about work. But don't worry, I've been applying like a madwoman to other jobs so that I can get out!

Thurs I was off and my boss came to the store (I'm a retail manager) at 9:28 (opening staff gets there at 9:30). She has a key so she opened the door and went in and set off the alarm. As she doesn't have a code, she then proceeded to call everyone BUT me (even the manager who was on paid vacation as well as a non-key-holding-associate ["What do you mean you don't have an alarm code?!"]) even though I'm the store manager.

Super sketchy.

As I heard about the incident (and the police responding, which gives the store a fine of $700!) from my manager (NOT my boss) I contacted Loss Prevention to ask if I should file an incident report ("if there was a manager who forgot their code, and this resulted in a false police response, would you want me to file an incident report?"), they said yes. I FIRST emailed my boss to let her know "I will need to send an incident report, just giving you a heads up!" and she agreed and just asked me to CC her on it.

I send the report and she calls to bitch me out about "you shouldn't be calling LP first, I should be your first line of communication." WTF? I'm sorry that you broke the rules and might get in trouble for it, but I don't need your fucking permission to contact LP for AN LP ISSUE THAT YOU CREATED.

It's ok though. Calling HR today. Hope my boss doesn't give me crap about contacting them without her permission. /rolleyes

Re: Work vent. [NWR]

  • She sounds like a real peach.
  • She's just a shitty manager.

Which wouldn't drive me so crazy, but her being bad at her job makes ME bad at MY job. And I don't enjoy feeling like I'm bad at my job (when I'm NOT).

We had a prior discussion about communication styles (I felt like her method of communication with me was unprofessionally aggressive). Her reaction? She now only visits the store on my day off and chooses to communicate with me through my assistant manager.

Fabulous. So I contacted HR and they kept badgering me about "why did you file the report when you weren't there? Why didn't [your boss] file it?" Um, I don't know. I emailed her to let her know that a report needed to be filed and she called me and told me to do it.

I told them that I'm worried about retaliation for simply following Loss Prevention's directives and the response was "well you just sound very emotional. Tomorrow is a new day, and this could all blow over. She might not even mention it again!"

Like seriously, is this the Twilight Zone? Have I entered a parallel dimension where employee rights don't exist?
  • I would call HR again, and hope that you don't get someone who is trying to shove sunshine up your ass.

  • You sound emotional? HR said this to you? Is that not an HR violation to basically assume that someone is paranoid and hysterical over an actual issue?

I hope you find a new job soon.

  • There aren't that many people in HR, and the woman I spoke to was supposed to be the HR representative in charge of "employee relations". The only other person I could think of to contact would be the HR Director, and I feel like that's kind of out of place.

Already this situation is making me feel like I should have kept my mouth shut from the beginning and just let everyone run wild in my store. I feel like pressing the issue would just put me in more hot water.
  • I mean jesus fuck. I took a fucking SICK DAY because I couldn't handle the (as I even phrased it) "hostile work environment that she is creating due to her unprofessional reaction."

And they could not care fucking less.

"I think you should sit down and discuss communication styles with her."

    RIGHT-FUCKING-O, GOOD IDEA IDIOT.

  • Me thinks that HR is just as done with her as you are so they don't want to deal with it.

  • Although, good news in this, I guess, is that when discussing this with Fi he told me not to worry and that even if I get fired (unlikely) before I find a new job that we can just push up the wedding and get married at the courthouse so that he can put me on his medical insurance.

Which would be fine by me. <3
  • HR is pulling the same shit with my FSMIL. Her boss is making up lies about her productivity and efficiency, and claiming she was telling him details about her lady problems. He apparently also told her he was ordering her some kind of "womens issues" packet. Can anyone say sexual harassment charge in the making?

Oh, this same boss is blocking her efforts to leave for a different job, and she's discovered he has a hidden camera in his office filming his meetings with her and others.
