ordering groom's ring?

When is a good time to go ahead and order the groom's wedding band? Is it still too early for this? My date is June 28, 2014.

Re: ordering groom's ring?

  • We are looking now and probably will order mid to the end of March

  • I'm thinking of ordering mine in April, and our wedding's not until a year later.  I'm just trying to pay for stuff and get it out of the way in advance as much as I can.

  • I would, in case you need to get it sized slightly.  It depends too on how long it'll take to come in.  Your wedding is really only 4 months away.

  • We went looking for rings about 4 months out. Both of ours had to be special-ordered because FI chose a tungsten ring (which are cast to your specific size because they can't be re-sized), and the band I chose was supposed to be able to be sized down, but they ended up having to make a custom one for me because they couldn't size it lower than a 6. They estimated that it would take 2 - 3 weeks to get them in, but it actually took 4.

  • I ordered FI's (tungsten) ring 6 weeks ago (was told it would take 5-6 weeks to come in) and it's still not here. We're getting married in April. I would order now if he's getting something that needs to be made special or sized to order.

  • FI ordered his tungsten ring at the end of January for our June 7th wedding. My ring is being custom made so I ordered it at the beginning of February, because that is what my jeweller advised.

  • I would order sooner rather than later. If it comes in early, you have it and no worries. But I'd rather have that come in early and be done than be worrying that it wouldn't be there in time.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • Depends on what kind of ring and where you're getting it. But you should probably order soon because sometimes things are out of stock and may take months to come in.

  • I didn't know it you could order your ring too early?   We got DH's 6+months before hand simply because it's the one he wanted and we didn't see a reason to wait to buy it.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I'm getting married in September and will likely start looking soon.

  • We just ordered for both of our wedding rings. Wedding in July, but he chose to order his online, after not liking any of the ones we checked out in stores.  So, just in case, order early so you can be sure it fits and is what he expected.
  • I've already ordered both of our rings since they're being custom made. Our estimate was a bit longer at 8 to 10 weeks, but we'll still have plenty of time before our November 8 wedding. We should actually get them at the end of March. I'd much rather order too early than too late just in case. Unless, you think your tastes will change over that course of time. My FI and I knew what we wanted, so we just went ahead and got it. Our rings were the first things we bought for our wedding.

"They say there's no such place... as Paradise. Even if you search to the ends of the Earth, there's nothing there. No matter how far you walk, it's always the same road. It just goes on and on. But, in spite of that... Why am I so driven to find it? A voice calls to me... It says, 'Search for Paradise.' " - Kiba, Wolf's Rain

  • I thought I would wait until April, but then I got a coupon code for $100 off, so I ordered FI's ring today, a year and 2 months in advance.  Might as well knock out what I can in the year leading up the wedding, I figure.

  • We were married in June, and started looking in April to at least know his size.  He was a common size and was leaning towards tungsten so were told we would not have a problem finding one in store for the most part.  We bought his ring at a Memorial Day sale (2 weeks before the wedding) in a department store and walked out with it.

  • Our wedding is in July and we haven't even started looking at rings yet. We have an idea of what we want, and my jeweler said it would be no problem to start the process towards the end of March/beginning of April. Of course, I keep seeing rings online that I like, but don't know FI's ring size. I'm not overly worried, though, since my jeweler was able to get my hand-forged e-ring done in 2 weeks.

  • The take away I get here is that it depends on what you get and where. It took a jeweler about a week to make my fiance's ring. It's white gold with a grove of yellow gold in the center. I hope it ends up being the right size... he's lost 5lbs since we ordered it.

  • FI and I ordered ours last weekend. We returned to the same place that sold him my engagement ring and wanted to work with the same gentleman who helped him. We ended up buying both of our rings that day and our wedding isn't until September. We'll have them in another 2 weeks. I don't think it's too early for you, and as others have said, better to have them on hand now, it's one less thing to worry about as June approaches!
  • Our wedding is in May and we got our rings in January. We both got plain gold (for him) and white gold (for me) bands. Our family jeweler is absolutely amazing and got them to us in about a week, so now they're sitting in their boxes in a bag with "KEEP! WEDDING BANDS!" on it in huge dark sharpie. I don't think it's too early for y'all, they don't "go bad" and it gives you extra time in case you need to get them sized.

  • Just keep in mind that your hands have a tendency to swell in the summer time, so you may want to adjust the size accordingly so that it fits on his finger on your wedding day. :)
