So my fiancé and I are marrying in Scotland in July of this year. We are both US citizens, but most of his family is in Scotland. Has anyone else gotten married in Scotland or the UK? Did you have any issues getting your visa? I know that a marriage that is done in accordance with any local requirements is then recognized as legal in the US, but is there anything else that we need to do to ensure that it is recognized in the US? I've contacted our county offices, state attorney general's office, and the state department to try and get some questions answered, but have essentially gotten the run around. If anyone has any information or experience that you can share I'd be very grateful.
