Negotiating with The Palace in Somerset?

Hello! I had my first appointment with The Palace at Somerset Park today. I have to say - I absolutely loved it! I have heard nothing but great reviews. Does anyone have any recent experience with negotiating with them? The quoted me $125pp (before tax/tip) on a Friday night in March in the west ballroom with a guest minimum of 135-140. The price went up to $135 in April, August, November and December. $145 in may and July. And $155 in June, September and October. I'm looking at march due to the lower price pp. I would also be having my ceremony at the venue. I'd really like to get it down approx $10pp. Any help and/or negotiation tips would be great! Also, has anyone tried paying straight cash to avoid 7% tax?

  • I got married there in November. Unfortunately they won't lower the price but you might be able to negotiate lighting or extra stations in. I have to say they did a wonderful job and I can't say enough great things.
  • I was married there two years ago. You got a really good price! I was in the West ballroom with a guarantee of 125 on a Friday in September. In my experience, they wouldn't lower the price but we did negotiate away the ceremony fee and some stations/upgrades. I didn't know about the uplighting and wish I had (several brides negotiated for it). If you're looking to save $1400, the ceremony fee and lighting would equal that, if not a little more. It was a fantastic experience and you won't be disappointed. Good luck!

  • I am a July Friday night wedding in the West Ballroom.  They would not budge per head and we offered paying cash if they could waive the tax but they weren't able to do that either.  After meeting we emailed them and said we could afford the price if they threw in a few extras...the uplighting package, an upgrade to our Viennese hour and for both sets of parents to attend the tasting for free.   I would certainly try to negotiate the things you want...we would have paid for uplighting either way so it was a little give and take to go out of our price range but save on an extra expense.  Good luck!
