FI broke the cardinal rule

FI made me go with him to test drive a truck this past weekend. He knows his car is fine and we don't have it in the budget to be trading up for a new loan right now, yet he just HAD to go drive it. Now he's been moping around being a sad bunny sourpuss for 2 days because he can't have the truck. I told him you broke the rule- never try on a wedding dress that you can't afford because you WILL fall in love! He learned the hard way lol (but seriously he's being like a teenage girl who just got dumped, we are doing T25 workouts together and he skipped the workout and got fast food- come on man!)

Re: FI broke the cardinal rule

  • LOL they do it to themselves!

I really like T25 so far. It's the same guy who does Insanity except it's only 25 minutes a day instead of 60. That makes it really easy to stick with it and there's a modifier girl so when I can't do the crazy one hand/ one leg push ups I just follow what she's doing.

  • Oh you wouldn't do well with my fiance. He averages a new car every two years (almost all used, thankfully). He obsesses about vehicles. He researches the crap out of them, plans modifications for them, test drives them when he KNOWS he can't have them. Sometimes he makes the mistake and gets them, but I think we're beyond that.

He's currently obsessed with getting a spec Miata so we can race again. Dude- we JUST bought a new car in November- and we bought it cash, which felt great. And we are keeping that car until our other car is paid off two years from now. I am not getting another loan on a third car just because you want a roadster.

  • It's okay, I do it to myself. I look at the bunnies in the pet store knowing that (a) I will never purchase an animal from a store in the mall, and (b) my beagle baby would eat the bunny. Yet I still go in there, I hold the bunny, fall in love, then DH has to drag me out kicking and screaming (on the inside)

  • Fi does T25 too and really enjoys it!
  • He is hoping you will tell him to go buy the truck isnt he?  LOL

It's not even me that's stopping him. He knows it's priced too high (used), he knows he's the one who can't afford the payment or the extra gas money, not me lol. But of course I keep having to remind him of these things :)

H is like that with airplanes.
  • FI is the same way with collectibles. Unfortunately for us, he ended up getting the $120 lightsaber.

    *sigh*

  • @laceybird, I know which saber you're referring to - which one did he get?

Obi-Wan's . Though, I have to admit it was absolutely hilarious watching the expression on his face when he put the batteries in it and turned it on. His face lit up like a kid at Christmas.

  • Fi did that once. And then bought the truck (instead of the e-ring he said he was buying me). We still have the truck and it took him 8 more years to get out of his financial mess to finally propose. I joked for years that his Typhoon was my engagement truck and named it "Homewrecker". I also half-joked that if things went south between us, I'd torch the truck. heh

  • Tell him to consider a career change. FI is a corporate account manager for one of the big rental car companies and he has to gets to switch out his car out ever 30 days. I flippin' love it (…but I do drive a minivan so I would love just about anything); it takes him just about that long to get everything "situated" the way he likes it so he tends to fuss (…until he remembers that the zero car payment and free gas is a GODSEND).

  • @niccirf that's really cool!! My FI doesn't even like cars, he is a diesel mechanic for Mack trucks and he'd love to be a truck driver if I let him. Silly me that I want him home every night lol. He always says if for some reason we can't have children, we will travel the country together as a truck driving team hahaha

Sorry, that's all I know. I'm pretty out-of-the-loop with Star Wars. All I know is that the box said it was an Obi-Wan replica light-saber, and that the total bill was $120. I think it was blue?

    Yeah, totally unhelpful. :\

It was the Force FX saber probably at that range - does it make swishy and crashy noises?

ETA: And I meant my reply would be unhelpful.

Yeah, I think that's it, lol! He got so excited that if you try to turn it on without the "saber" part on it, it just crackles and fizzles, lol.
