Am I living under a rock? Tipping the DJ

Last night my fiance and I met with a potential DJ for the wedding.  As he was writing out the contract, he said that the fee would be "$x dollars plus tip"

**Huh?**

Am I living under a rock for thinking that we don't have to tip the DJ for the service we are already paying for or do/did you tip the DJ at your wedding?

From most things I've read, it is actually customary to tip the DJ.  Of course, tipping is always optional and should reflect good service - so only tip if you were happy with the DJ's performance.  I think it is also acceptable not to tip if the DJ is the owner of the company, not just an employee.

Our DJ requires a 15% tip, it's part of the contract. Honestly, it pissed me off because what happens if he doesn't live up to the hype? But, we researched our vendors carefully, and the company is highly regarded ... so they will hopefully earn that tip!

I agree, it is customary to tip the DJ 15-20%
