NWR- Awesome morning here at PennyBlossom3211's house

Soooo, I got to work this morning, and I tell my coworker about a funny smell I had in my house last night. It started around 10pm and smelled like rotten eggs in my hallway. When I woke up this morning, the smell was gone. ( I know, I'm an idiot and probably could have died) I live in a really old house and chalked it up to weird, old house stuff. "That's a gas leak!" my coworker yelled to me. Well shit....I called my land lady and the gas company, peeled out of work, and raced to the house thinking I would come home to two dead cats that had been poisoned or to find my house blown to smithereens. Got home and put my dog's carrier outside, shoved in a towel, wrestled two cats out of the house and put them in the kennel. BTW...It's pouring. So we all sat out in my yard under an umbrella and waited for the gas company to come and deem my house safe or unsafe. (Why not just load everyone in the car you ask? My dog's carrier doesn't fit in the car and last time one of my cats was in there, she got so scared she peed everywhere. Since we all know that smell is effing' awesome I decided sitting in the rain with two howling cats and a very muddy dog was a much better plan of action.)  Soooo we stayed huddled under an umbrella until the company got there and scanned my house. Everything is fine and there are no leaks. The guys couldn't figure out what it was or where the smell came from. They said it could be something in the pipes and now I'm waiting for a plumber but at least we're not sitting in the cold rain. Thanks weird old house. I've decided my morning was nutty enough that I'm not going back to work and will be hanging out in PJ's praying my cat's don't attack me for making them sit in the rain for 30 minutes with a muddy dog. That was my morning, hope everyone else is having a much more tame start to the day!

  • Oh no!  Thank God everyone is okay, though.  I'd not go back to work, either.
  • Oh no!  That sounds terrible.  Glad to hear it wasn't a gas leak.

Reminds me of the time our apartment building's central alarm went off at about 11:30 at night in the middle of January.  Crammed our cats in their carriers and ran outside to stand in the freezing cold in our sweatpants.... and it turned out to be a burst pipe in the basement.

  • Thanks @ Cokezerofreak! I'm glad it wasn't a leak as well. It was a scare but at least that's all it was. btw...love your name! I am a Coke Zero lover, big time!

@JCBride2014- Thanks...I'm sure it was comical for the guys  when they came to the house, to see us all sitting in the yard. Oh my goodness, I would be miserable in January standing outside! Good thing it was only a busted pipe and not a fire or anything.

  • OH no! Well I'm glad to hear that all is well and that it wasn't a gas leak! Poor kitties and doggy! My one cat would be screaming bloody hell if I forced him outside rain or no rain lol. Hope your evening was a lot better!

  • Yikes! Glad everyone's okay!

My senior year of college, I lived off-campus with two roommates. One of my roommates had no sense of smell, and the other one was kind of an oddball (even more than I am). I got home from class one day and the ENTIRE apartment smelled like gass. Oddball roommate had turned on the stove and the pilot had gone out. She didn't realize it and when she was done cooking, saw that the stove was "off," and soon left for class. My other roommate came home, but of course she couldn't tell anything was wrong! I immediately turned off the burner and opened ALL of the windows immediately, and for a few hours, I wouldn't let my roommate cook dinner.
