NWR: NYC on Labor Day Weekend

I've been to NYC several times but H has never been. We are considering making a long weekend trip over Labor Day for his birthday... I've read stories of the city being "deserted" this weekend as everyone heads out of town/to the beach.

1) Is this true? 2) Would this have an impact on tourist activities?

Hi!

1. This is true - but IMHO it is still NYC so there are still tons of people around. I think it is mostly the locals that tend to get away since it is the unofficial end to summer.

2. Not at all. In fact, it probably makes them better because there are less people around, the city can get pretty congested in touristy areas. There will still be tons to do around the city.

Thank you @pinkcow13 ! Having fewer crowds would be nice and since NYC never really shuts down I didn't think it would be an issue but I wanted to double check. I figured someone on these boards would be able to help.

You'll miss the noisy "heartbeat" of the city, but you certainly won't get bored. Also, tickets on 47th street is about 1/2 price, so you could see a couple of shows. Enjoy!

It is still really hot in the city Labor Day weekend. If you get Columbus Day weekend off that is a better time to visit and October is a low tourist season.
