"altar" decorations?

I'm doing an outdoor late evening wedding in my fathers backyard. It is going to be a lighthearted theme with orange blue and yellow as my colors. we have pinwheel escort cards, photo booths with fun fabric backdrops, lots and lots of mason jars with candles in them as centerpieces, a HUGE dessert buffet, and string lights hung above the tables. during the ceremony, i will have mason jars hung from 3 foot tall shepherds hooks down the aisle, but i cant seem to come up with any ideas for decorating the "altar" area. I would like some sort of illumination, but the only thing i can think of to stay with the theme is more mason jars hung from taller shepherds hooks and im not crazy about it. anyone have any ideas or examples of what they did for their wedding?

What about an arch with lights running up and around it? Some lighted paper lanterns sound like they would go good with your decor also.

If you dont want to do an arch, what about two columns, one on each side of the alter area, and lights and ivy strung up those

An older Knottie made these pillars and put flashlights inside of them to glow, then sat flowers on top. It's really hard to see in these pics but hopefully you will get the jist of it from the instructions: http://dawnandtom.000freehosting.com/Planningbio/index.html

How about using the above poster's suggestion, and instead of wiring lights on the arch, use tiny baby food jars wired to the arch with tealights or LED tealights? They'd look like small mason jars. You could also wire some silk floral garlands or tulle around it that match your flowers.

have you thought about your WP being your decor?  Some people get so consumed with the decor of the altar and it gets blocked in pictures by the WP.  If you truly want something, stick with your fabric theme and drape it as a background.  I made a REALLY cheesy picture to try to give you an idea of what I am thinking.  I am just not a fan of the white plastic arches. The second picture is using flowers.

I'm not a big fan of the flimsy white wedding arches either, they tend to fall over.  But a similar idea, like a wooden garden trellis, arbor, or pergola would be more sturdy and would make a very nice focal point.  Maybe with a birdbath under it, full of floating blooms and candles, and garland on the trellis, with mini hanging lanterns.

It might make a nice addition to your father's yard, as a thank you gift.  You can buy them at most garden centers of places like Lowe's, Home Depot, Wal-mart, or Garden Ridge.

Or if there is a tree in the background of where the "altar" area will be, maybe hang mosquito netting from it, and drape it with some deorations and lights or lanterns.
