Opinions please

So at this point I am pregnant. I bought my dress before getting pregnant and when we were planning a huge shindig, since then our venue changed from a barn with roughly 150 guests to a small castle with 10 people total and our reception will be a simple going to dinner with the people who were in attendance(basically our parents and 2 very good friends.) Anyway...I'll be roughly 2 months postpartum when we get married being that I'm not sure how quick I loose the baby weight and the venue change I'm not sure if the dress I have now is appropriate...(I was thinking maybe changing to a more elegant chiffon flowy dress instead) I also have a 1950s style blue dress that I planned to change into for dinner but idk about that one either... My dress is a lace mermaid style dress made by galina with a pinkish pearl and crystal sash. It's been discontinued so I can't find it online. :/

Re: Opinions please

  • I would maybe get a second dress and then make the decision after you have the baby so you know what size you are. Congrats!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Thanks as you can probably tell baby was a surprise however we are both thrilled. Anyway do you think I should go ahead and buy the second dress now or should I wait until after the baby is born. I'm 14 weeks now and starting to show but not really show(unless I eat a large meal) but if I go with a more flowy empire waist dress it may not matter to much.
  • I would probably wait a little longer.

  • Wait till after the baby is born. That way, you'll be less stressed about losing weight and you can buy something that fits you as you are.
  • First of all, congratulations!
Second...wait until after you have the baby.  You have no idea in what ways your body will change between now and then so I would suggest waiting until after the baby is born and buying something off the rack.
  • Thanks ladies. That helps a bunch. I am worried that I'll need rush alterations on an off the rack dress though (I'm really short) and that can add to the cost :/ in the end it'll probably be ok though
  • You can always go try things on during your pregnancy just to see what styles you are comfortable in after your body has changed a bit. Empire waists are great. When you first have the baby the rule is that you can usually wear what you wore at 6 months pregnant, but by 2 months postpartum you will probably have lost a good deal of your baby weight. Your bust measurement will probably be larger though, especially if you are breastfeeding. Good luck and congrats!!
  • I agree pp to wait until after baby is born. I've known women how have been lucky enough to bounce back to pre-baby size within 1-2 weeks after having the baby and other where it's taken longer. It all depends on how much weight you gain during your pregancy and where the weight goes on your body (overall versus all belly). Keep your options open when you do go dress shopping, also consider evening dress stores, not just bridal stores. Congrats on your bundle of joy!!
