sparkler suggestion

Anyone have a suggestion of where to buy sparklers? I have googled options but am not familiar with any of the companies and I did not see any on sites i regularly use (e.g. etsy or amazon). I am leaning towards the 20inch versions. Recommendations would be appreciated.

Re: sparkler suggestion

  • Are these sparklers for a send off for the bride and groom?  Just keep in mind, if you are hosting alcohol, it might be a bad idea to mix sparklers with people who might be intoxicated.  My photographer said many brides and grooms have been burned or had their dress burned from guests who were a little too drunk to be handling sparklers.  Just wanted to give you heads up.  If you think your guests will be fine with sparklers, party on.
  • What state do you live in? In PA there are loads of stores near the NY border since they're legal in PA and not in NY. Also, my coordinator (who has done sparkler sendoffs before) suggested having a coffee can filled with sand to quickly extinguish any smoldering sparklers. Provided you get people to line up far enough apart, things should go fine, and you'll get some awesome photos!

I just ordered mine from sparklersrus.com for our send off, they last longer than the shorter ones (aka more photo ops to choose from) and got the 36" just because I want them higher away from me! Great packaging, shipped really fast.
  • They sound adorable - but I'd be careful. Besides the concerns about mixing sparklers with alcohol, I'd also be concerned with children. Above all else, be sure that the venue allows them. I know that my event coordinator specifically mentioned that they were off limits.

  • I love the idea of sparklers as well but I am not sure how you tie it into the event. When is it done and does it interfer with people having a good time?

I can't help on where to purchase but:

-Make sure you buy the long ones if you are doing it for a send off
-Read reviews if there are any about how smoky they are. I've seen some that are super smoky and it kills the photos/look of the send off. Others were not smoky really at all.
  • I second the "stand far enough apart" sentiment.

I went to a wedding with a sparkler send off and I was miserable. It was a hot Texas summer day, we were standing under a covered walkway with stairs leading from the country club doors to the car. It was a raised porch with rails and no where to stand but in the walkway. Everyone was cramped so close together. The sparklers made things that much more hot and even with turning sidewads and holding my arm straight out, I still felt like I was going to burn myself or others. In fact, embers did touch my arm more than once. They didn't smoke too badly, but it was a little noticeable under the covered area. Also, as they burned off, the burned paper on the ends curled and fell off the sticks. So then, there were smoldering bits of sparkler all over the main entrance/exit. All the women who wore sandals had to be careful. I got a small ember in my sandal. Ouch. I'm skeptical of all sparkler send offs for that one bad experience. No one likes getting burned, or even feeling like they're in danger of being burned. If your guests would have to stand closer than 3 feet to each other to send you off, I wouldn't do them.

No suggestions on where to buy. Just wanted to share my experience for you to consider. Certainly, you know best what you want and what will work for your wedding.

"They say there's no such place... as Paradise. Even if you search to the ends of the Earth, there's nothing there. No matter how far you walk, it's always the same road. It just goes on and on. But, in spite of that... Why am I so driven to find it? A voice calls to me... It says, 'Search for Paradise.' " - Kiba, Wolf's Rain

  • Im doing it at the end, the "send off" if you will. I did get the long ones and it will be outside in Texas in April (as long as weather permits) so there should be plenty of space. I appreciate all the input!
    Thanks ladies
  • Are they legal where you live? That's probably part of the trouble, that they're illegal in some places.
  • yup they're legal, Texas. My venues ok with it too so i think im good as long as people stay somewhat sober and the weather cooperates with me
