Doing something for readers

So we have three readings. Two of my best guy friends from grad school are doing one, his grandmother is doing one, and then one of our camp friends is doing the last one. I want to do something for the readers but I don't know what. Do I give the readers corsages/boutioners? What would be an appropriate gift?

  • I've read in 3 weddings and was never given a corsage, I also did not give them to my readers.  As far as gifts I've always been given one. One was a Mary Kay gift bag (I used to use the products), one was Bath and Body Works stuff (again the scent I used at the time), and one was a Starbucks gift card (I may have a Starbucks problem).  I gave my readers Target gift cards.

  • We have always given readers corsages or boutonnières. In addition, because they are a part of the wedding party, they were also invited to the rehearsal dinner.
  • I think simple corsage/boutiner is a nice idea as it helps them stand out as someone important which they are because else you wouldn't have asked them to do a reading.

I am not planning on giving corsages to my readers, but their names will be in the program and if we have a wedding party dinner (we're not having a rehearsal) they will be invited with their SOs.  I will also give them a small gift, maybe a $25 giftcard to a store they like.
  • It would never occur to me NOT to give them corsages and bouts.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I actully wasn't planning on doing corsages for anyone at all.

  • Oh, well, if nobody is getting one, then no.

  • If you're including these people, just make sure not to neglect them. If you are having events for the wedding party it would be nice to include them. They don't need a gift but a thank you would be nice.
My fiance was in a wedding a couple of years ago where he was a reader and was required to rent a tux but was not included in the rehearsal dinner or the wedding party pictures and was not allowed a guest (me) and it was also out of town. He is still kind of pissed off about it.

  • Oh my goodness! That's so inappropriate! And asking the reader to rent a tux? Our readers are mainly people we wanted to be in the wedding party but the wedding party would be too dang big. They're coming to the rehearsal and hanging out with us the day of the wedding.

  • We did corsages or bouts and then small gifts -- things we thought they would enjoy.
