Hallelujah: completely inappropriate for wedding ceremony?

I adore this song. But it would be pretty non-traditional for a wedding ceremony I guess. I have a really great folksy duo playing the ceremony and I think they would do a great job with it. Here's a link to Jeff Buckley's version of the song. Apparently it was also in Shrek if that helps to sell it a bit.

What do you guys think? Thanks for your opinions!

  • I love, love, love this song.  Having said that, I think it's completely inappropriate for a wedding ceremony.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • I absolutely LOVE that song!!! Its one of my all time favorites. But not appropriate for a wedding.

  • Yeah, not really appropriate.  I think you could potentially do just an instrumental version, but the guitar line only is really repetitive.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I've heard many different songs at weddings, including "Another one bites the dust" and "Sign, Sealed Delivered, I'm Yours" - but I agree with the others. It seems a real downer for a wedding.

  • It's a beautiful song; can your duo just play the instruments without lyrics?

We found instrumental versions of tons of songs online as well. I came down the aisle to my favorite Cure song, and everyone commented on how pretty it was, not realizing it was some vintage 80s punk! :)

which Cure song?  I would love to be able to use one of their songs to walk down the aisle to, but my ceremony is going to be in a Catholic church, so contemporary songs are out
