hump day chit-chat

good morning, ladies!  what's happening?

I'm currently in Mail Jail at work (my email inbox is too full) so I'm waiting for 15 minutes to go by until I am "free" and can go in and start deleting things.  *sigh*  what a way to begin the day!

Re: hump day chit-chat

  • @cocobellaf I wish I had "mail jail". I'm constantly getting bombarded from emails and they're always the same thing. One sent from our director's assistant, then our manager forwarding the SAME email. We got it already, thanks!

Today I've been at work since 5:45, trying to get cases done while I'm on vacation. I'm pretty caught up but next week the surgeons will start adding more cases=more work, so I probably will have to stay until 5:30 pm next week. Poor FI never sees me anymore! By the time he gets home from work, I'm in bed!

I also organized a check list for WR stuff I have to do. My next project is to look for red envelopes that a business card would fit into for escort cards. I have all the time in the world to look for them, but it just popped up in my head today that I have to get them at some point.

  • I finally made it into the office today. The snow kept me home Monday, and the icy conditions/bad commute kept me home yesterday. I've been wearing the same outfit since Monday night. Well I didn't sleep in it, but wore it every time I left the house. It is made up of a new sweater I feel kinda awesome in, so I'm going with it.

I'm working on picking out invitations for my friends' baby shower. They won't know whether it is a boy or a girl in time for the shower invites to go out, so I am trying to select colors the parents would like. It is difficult, but I think I've found some that will work.

H is on the other side of the country for the week. I miss him. I hate being in a different time zone. I'm in bed by the time he is eveninging. I feel your pain @Buddysmom80

@cocobellaf I filled my voicemail box at work for the first time a few weeks ago. It took nearly 4 years. I always wonder what it would take to fill my inbox, they archive emails over a year old though.

  • @twodimes you're absolutely right! The escort cards (which will have the guest's table number and a sly way to let the waitstaff know the guest's meal choice) go in the red envelope. Also I feel you on not seeing your BF! It sucks!

  • well, apparently since I run a web-based version of our email instead of the Lotus Notes client they can't get me out of mail jail.  UGH.  so, they put in a ticket to get me migrated to our new Outlook based email client early (I was supposed to be migrated tomorrow).  THERE IS DRAMA.

anyway.  I'm supposed to teach the lesson tonight in our kids' class at church.  we're going to talk about self-control.  since I'm just sitting here trying to get into my mailbox, I guess I should start working on my lesson.  and maybe go heat up my coffee.

did I ever show you all which glasses I picked out on Saturday?  I am on pins and needles waiting for them to come in.  if I could upload a picture of me wearing them, I would, but I can't get photos to work on here.  this is the stock photo:  LINK
  • @cocobellaf cute glasses!!!!!!

  • I ran into a corner in my apartment last night. Took out an arm, hip, and wrist. I'll have to wait to see if it bruises. Ouch.

Also, I have a huge zit on my temple, which is totally contributing to my irritated mood.

And my mom already said that she wants a new scarf for next winter, ignoring the stupid amount of work and expense that the Irish hiking scarf was. Which annoys me.

I have to run a test this morning to confirm that my system sucks. I'd feel better if I were doing actual research, but these are the experiments preparatory to doing actual research. Which means I suck as a researcher if I can't even get past these. Existential crisis, party of one ... hope there are some real estate listings today, I'd love to drool over something.

I'm exhausted today, I just want to sleep and relax. I'm pretty excited my invites came in the mail yesterday.  They look great I can't wait to begin getting them out, I won't mail them until early April.  My kitchen is in complete disarray and probably will be for another week or two while FI is redoing the kitchen.  Things are all over and it's driving me batty. I"m trying to just let it go and be excited for the new redone kitchen.

  • ETA:  my mom got THESE (brown with blue).  I thought it was funny because we both GUESS glasses that were brown with blue accents.
  • I hate that! I had to sit and delete a ton of email last week and apparently I didn't do a good enough job because I had to do it again yesterday.

I'm good today. A little tired again, not sure why. I'm looking forward to tonight: I have a bunch of shows to catch up on and H won't be home until 9 so it's just me and the pup and the kitters. I love a night alone here and there!

  • @KeptInStitches - soak in epsom salt: it'll help with the bruising.  :)
  • Thanks, @cocobellaf. Cute glasses! I was hoping you'd pick those!
  • @swazzle I love nights when FI I get to be home alone for a bit too usually when FI has a late night hockey game.

  • @keptinstiches how did you do with the February KAL? I failed miserably! FWIW, I didn't really work on it too much, I'm working on a baby blanket that has kept me busy. Also, I think I HATE knitting scarves. The last scarf I knitted I was SO glad I finished it.

  • @Swazzle @CocoBellaF - I've never heard of mail jail, but I used to have to empty my inbox at my old job because it was too full. I'd sort the e-mails by size and delete the GINORMOUS ones (that's what Outlook labeled them because they were >15MB). That would at least let me accumulate more emails. Does yours go by size? Or number of emails?

I am feeling completely and totally crappy today. My allergies are RIDIC. I feel like I've got a cold, but it's not a cold, it's stupid allergies. I'm miserable.

Last night was the first time in a LONG time that DDs went to their dad's house during the week. They just moved closer to us so it's possible. But of course DD1 had soccer last night and went home with her dad. He was supposed to wash her soccer stuff for tonight's practice, but he put it in the wash and didn't send her to school with it. It's really exhausting dealing with him. Lord give me strength!

  • @buddysmom80, I finished it! I have two ends to work in and it'll be done - I'll post photos tonight or tomorrow. It's so soft and so pretty ... I think I'm going to CO about 2/3 as wide and make a matching headband with what's left of the yarn. I'm working around a baby blanket, too, though. What pattern do you use for yours?
  • @CocoBellaF - Love your new glasses and congrats to your H! That's such great news!!!

@buddysmom80 - I don't understand the envelopes. I feel like maybe my brain isn't working today.

@Ollie08 - Oh good thinking! I usually sort by the sender/receiver since emails with my mom and all can be deleted easily. I will try sorting by size!

  • @Ollie08 - it's by size.
  • @cocobellaF yay congrats on the raise for your H!!!!

    Anniversary

  • My email is blowing up today! Sometimes I get really frustrated and want to send really rude emails to a lot of people who are really lazy but I then I need to remind myself that they literally have no idea what they are doing so it would do me no good to be rude. I'm just really impatient and have no tolerance for laziness.

Today is going to be so busy at work ugh...and I need to go to the grocery store on my lunch break to get a bunch of things for dinner tonight and the rest of the week. After work I'm going to CrossFit. H has a bunch of meetings today so I won't see him till after 7:30 : (

Also we did lunges yesterday and I'm super sore so it makes it hard to sit down lol. I look ridiculous!
  • @CocoBellaF - YAY for your H! How exciting! Now if only you can get sorted out, that'd be great. And on the email note, try sorting them by size when you can finally get in. My IT manager was the one who suggested that. In my department it wasn't unusual to have huge files attached to emails, so I only had to delete a couple of really big ones to make room for hundreds of correspondence type emails.

Side note: When I came to work with my mom, she had something like 20,000 UNREAD emails. I've been here since June and I've gotten her down to just over 4,000 unread emails. That's just nuts. I don't know how people function like that!

  • @Ollie08 - when you're in Mail Jail, you can't delete anything (now, that doesn't make sense AT ALL).  so I'm stuck here until I either get migrated to the new system or until they get me out.  I can see emails coming through, but I can't do anything.  *sigh*  such is the government!

@southernpeach89 - you must work near a grocery store?  do you take your groceries home or store them at work?  I work on a government base and it's a good 20 minute drive (or more) to any grocery store.  we are only allotted 30 minutes for lunch, so you do the math about going off-base for lunch or errands.  :-\
  • @swazzle something like this: http://www.theknot.com/weddings/photo/red-escort-cards-93635

@cocobellaf congrats to H! Woohoo for raises AND bonuses!!!!

@keptinstiches please share your work when you're done, I'm using the pine forest baby blanket pattern, it's a fun knit and an easy pattern to remember!

  • thanks, everyone!  we've been slammed with unexpected expenses since Thanksgiving, so it is wonderful to finally feel like we're getting ahead instead of just treading water!
  • Hooray for raises & new glasses!

BF got a promotion at the beginning of the year that included a raise - then he got a bonus and ANOTHER raise a few weeks ago. I refrained from telling him that the bonus should go STRAIGHT into ring fund. ;)

I'm getting my hair done tonight - WOOT. My roots are legitimately an inch-plus long. I didn't go any longer than usual, but apparently my hair is growing REALLY fast. I'm thinking about going back to blonde... I don't know. I'll probably just tell my girl to do whatever she wants. That usually works out.

@CocoBellaF Congrats on your H's promotion, raise and bonuses! YAY!!! 11% is awesome!

I'm doing tons and tons of follow up work today. I have so many different things going on and we're in the final month of the quarter so it's starting to get kind of crazy. I give myself therapy by researching hairstyles on Pinterest and looking at crystal headpieces on Etsy. I'm pretty sure I don't want to wear a veil so I'm trying to narrow down hairstyles that have some sort of tie in the back crystal and pearl headband or something.

FI and I also worked on music choices for our ceremony music last night. I think I'm going to walk out to Let Me Call you Sweetheart and our recessional will be Everybody Loves Somebody. I haven't for sure decided on the bridal party processional song(s) yet. I need to choose 1 or 2 to cover our families walking out and the bridal party. I was thinking about Moon River since it kind of has the same vibe as the other two songs but I haven't decided for sure yet. We're having a string trio play for the ceremony and cocktail hour.

  • @CocoBellaF- Yes, we have a Publix like 5 minutes down the street. Our lunch break time is usually 30 minutes to an hour depending how busy we are. My list isn't too long so hopefully it won't take me more than 45 minutes to get everything I need and get back to the office. We have a refrigerator here at work so I just store everything in there.
  • @CocoBellaF congratulations! And I love your glasses too.

@KeptInStitches have you ever tried arnica gel? My doctor recommended it for preventing and healing bruises because I’m terribly accident prone.

I’m about to go BSC over here. BF has insinuated that he intends to propose before we visit my family in early April. I had a false alarm when we were out to dinner for his birthday. After a really sweet moment he said “I have something for you,” and reached in his pocket. Then he handed me the gift card we were paying with. So romantic. Now he is oddly insistent on going to the Botanical Gardens this month even though the Atlanta Botanical Garden is expensive and not that great. I think something’s up because it’s weird for him to insist on things like that, especially if it’s expensive or if I don’t like it. Mostly I’m super excited but a little part of me is thinking, can we pick somewhere else?

Today at work I’m trying to plow through a huge project, so I guess I shouldn’t be on TK right now…

  • @buddysmom80 - I GET IT NOWWWW. And I love it!

  • Yayyy @swazzle! Now I have to figure out a way to stand them up. I'm thinking about buying card stock at Hobby Lobby and something that will cut out circles, fold them in half and glue it on the back of the envelope.
