Honeymoon in Orlando. Flying from Vegas.

Hi there!! We are planning on getting married in Las Vegas. We are thinking of booking one week in Vegas, getting married half way through and then heading straight to Orlando for two weeks for our honeymoon. Internal flights seem to be pretty cheap (we will be paying around $1125pp on flights anyway). We are planning this for October 2015. I know internal flights may not be available until 12 months before. Does anyone have any tips on internal flights from Vegas to Orlando? Anything else I should be aware off? We will definitely be booking flights and accommodation within the next few weeks!!!! :)

Re: Honeymoon in Orlando. Flying from Vegas.

  • Intra-US flights can't be booked until 11 months out on most airlines.  So you'll have to wait a while to book tht.  Usually intra-US flights aren't a good idea to book until 3-6 months ahead of time.  They'll start out at their most expensive, and then get cheaper and cheaper until about 3-4 weeks out, at which time they will get more expensive again.  That's not an exact science, but it's about right on average.

Make sure you check into the airlines that don't show up on Orbitz, Travelocity, etc.  Southwest has a few direct flights each day from Vegas to Orlando and the web fares are usually pretty cheap.  Jet Blue doesn't fly direct between the two but has a few one-stop options.  There aren't a lot of direct flights on any airline betwee those two airports, so Southwest may be your best bet - and typically it doesn't follow the expensive-gradually cheaper-expensive move i referenced above - they have fare sales occassionally, but other that those the prices usually stay about the same until immediately before the trip.

  • Do you live in the US? Why do you keep calling it internal flights? It would be domestic flights. But it kind of sounds like you will flying into Vegas from another country? If you do in fact live in the US that seems outrageous for flights. I have flown across the country to 3 different locations (in the same trip) many times for $500. In fact I'm doing it in May and the total is $438. So what exactly is your starting and ending point?

  • delujm0 Thanks for the advice, its much appreciated!!! I will be sure to check out Southwest nearer the time!

jenna8984 Ahhh sorry, I thought I had mentioned I lived in the UK. Its a 10.5hr flight so thats why its so expensive! Definitely worth it though :)

Does anybody know how often the direct flights from Vegas to Orlando are? If we booked everything apart from the domestic flights would we be okay to just book the hotel from a certain date?

Thanks again for all the help so far!!
  • If you go with Southwest for your domestic flights, the one-way price is generally the same as it would be if you were buying a roundtrip ticket (the major airlines will often make one-way tickets more expensive).  So you can always book that part later.  They're a low-cost airline (similar to Ryan Air I guess, but not as price gaugey about things like checked bags and pre-printed boarding passes.  You can check a bag for free and print a boarding pass at the airport no problem).

It's hard to say what their schedule will be in October 2015, but it looks like in 2014 (i searched a random Thursday)  there are two nonstop flights per day between Vegas and Orlando.  One that departs Vegas at 10:20am and lands in Orlando at 5:45pm, and one that departs Vegas at 3:00pm and ands in orlando at 10:20pm.  The flight isnt actually as long as it sounds, it should be around 4-4.5 hours, but there will be a few time zone changes.

  • Ok that makes much more sense for your price!

A lot of times it is cheaper to book it all at once. Multi-city flight from UK to Vegas to Orlando to UK. It does get more expensive if you add on the Vegas to Orlando one way after the fact.

Curious, why did you chose Orlando? There are much nicer places in the US to visit but I'm guessing you want it for Disney? lol

  • delujm0 Thank you thats a big help.... I guess when we book the package in the UK we can see what the holiday company say. I'm sure any airline would be better than Ryan Air!! We would probably fly home direct from Orlando- Manchester so would only need one way from Vegas- Florida. Thanks for the tip though, definitely gives us options! You've been a big help! :)

jenna8984 We worked out it wouldn't be too much more expensive and we think it would be worth it overall. Were going to discuss it with our local holiday company tomorrow and see what they suggest. Last time we visited Vegas we started in San Francisco and drove to LA and we loved the Disney Park there! We then travelled to Vegas. It was an awesome trip! We have never been to Orlando together and have always wanted to! We've both only been with our parents when we were younger. I'm also a massive fan of the Universal Studios parks and were big roller coaster fans so to be honest mostly for the theme parks. I also love St Augustines and Clearwater so we will probably do a few day trips! :) Is there anything else you can recommend?
Thanks again for all the help!!
  • Ah gotcha. I personally don't like amusement parks, I'd rather be exploring a historic city or lying on the beach. But since that is what you like sounds perfect for you!
Have you done the Grand Canyon your from Vegas? That's a pretty amazing sight (I'm going for my 4th time in May- FI hasn't been yet)
