Never been on a cruise...should I try it? Tell me about your cruises!

  • I only went on one cruise and really didn't hate it or like it.  We went on a 5 day cruise to Bermuda on Royal Caribbean.  Honestly it was good for all the food and to never be bored.  One thing that I could not get over is that it felt like you had no privacy.  I know a lot of PP's say that they had all the privacy they needed, but i really just think it depends on each person's experience.  Going on a cruise for a honeymoon so that you can have privacy just wouldn't be my first option.  I think seeing people everywhere and just in general standing around drove me crazy.  The pool chairs were literally right up against each other and attached to the deck so we couldn't move them.  The rooms were much to small to enjoy and the walls were very thin.  It really depends on the type of experience you want with your honeymoon.

  • I'm late to this thread, but I'm excited you're thinking of going on a cruise for your Honeymoon! I'm from Oregon too (November 2014 wedding) and my parents just told me and FI that they are giving us a cruise honeymoon for our wedding gift! My parents go on at least 1 cruise a year, I've gone on 5 and FI has been on one with us. It can be a great time, but sometimes it is what you make it. I've only ever been on Princess, but have researched other lines on cruise critic. That website is a great resource. I really believe a cruise is what you make it. When I go on vacation I like to relax, take naps, eat (and drink) and just lounge. But if I get a wild hair and want to explore, on a cruise I can do that as well. You don't necessarily have to do any excursions through the cruise line (this is where cruise critic comes in handy). I have learned that some things are hit and miss, some people love the buffet (my FI), I don't enjoy it - I would rather sit in the dining room or get pizza or a burger on deck. Drinks can get expensive, that's what the majority of my money goes to when cruising.
