    bachelor/bachelorette being misspelt
    etiquette being misspelt

    All of the above plus:

    its/it's
Sorry for your "lost" instead of "loss"
to/too [I actually saw I did this one on a post yesterday, because my dumb phone auto corrected me]

  • Yes, yes and yes, plus:

Overuse (and misuse) of the word 'literally'

And what are your thoughts on the Oxford comma?

  • AOTA plus:

Using an apostrophe to pluralize words, especially when people think they need one after a vowel (ex. apostrophe's)
    Too many !!!!!!
    Misuse of past/passed

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • Its/it's. How hard is it to figure out whether you're possessing a noun or contracting "it is"?

I'm so guilty of this. *hangs head in shame* Sorry ladies, my spell check would never recognize it. Just added it to my google spell check though, so I should get better.

I am a firm believer in the Oxford comma.  I think lists get very confusing without one.
    Me, too!

...and then I realize I didn't use it in my original post. Oy.

  • I cannot stand text speak. LOL, J/K, brb, ur, awk, gorge, etc.
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • I hate when spell check changes it to an entirely different word- definitely always gets changed to defiantly when people text me and they don't correct it.

Any use of teenage text type- R U going to C me L8er?

In addition to all of the above comments by others- my biggest pet peeve is "Valentimes"

  • I am of the belief that only stupid people who like sowing confusion refuse to use the Oxford comma.

Also, I ditto the then/than and the mis-use of 'literally.' Both of those make me just Stabby McStabberson. (And then also Judgey McJudgerson).

  • "As per" makes me twitch. IT'S REDUNDANT, PEOPLE!

Not grammar-related but also rage-inducing: I've been receiving numerous e-mails in which people are shortening the word, 'regards.'

It started out as 'Regrds,'; then, 'Rgrds,'; followed by, 'Rgds,'. Finally, I got one that just said, 'R,'.

Really?! You're soooo lazy that you can't type the word 'Regards'? Heck, have your signature auto-fill it.

  • Those things all get me.......although I have to say the worst for me right now is:

    then/than

constantly by the SAME people. Also brutal:

    your/you're

Than/then. Than is used for comparisons. Then is used for sequences of events. "I'd rather have this then that." - This bugs me.

In the box: Yes!  100% this!  I get stabby every time I see this mistake on the boards.
  • More generally, I am annoyed when people on the boards write totally incomprehensible posts, then someone asks for better punctuation, and they say, "Sorry I didnt know I was riting and ENGLISH PAPER for you bitchez."

English teachers promote proper grammar so that our students can go out into the world and be understood.  The real-world usage is the whole point!  Not just because we enjoy grading papers.
    THIS.

The majority of the time, the poster's first language is English. Your first language is never ghetto trash or text-speak, and I can assure you that everyone around you did NOT use run-on sentences at all times while you were growing up because then no one would have ever stopped speaking.

If you want me to take you seriously, please take language seriously. No matter how much you bastardise it, it is still the medium that is allowing you to communicate with the world.

Oh this is just ridiculous. While on the subject of emails, I hate when people write "please advice" instead of "please advise" in an email. I see this a lot in work emails.

  • I hate people who mix up lose/and loose. Lose is to misplace something. Loose is like your stupid grammar morals!!!!

I also really REALLY hate "legit". If something is legitimate or legitimately something, PLEASE SPELL IT OUT!

  • Everything above.
Men/ women when you mean man or woman.
    Are when you mean our
    I seen. Ugh.
  • Oh! Can we please talk email blunders for a minute?

Proper use of EOM (as in, "End of Message") in the subject line. I have a coworker who misuses it constantly. Last email she send went something like this:

Subject: EOM - My schedule for next week
Body: I'll be out of the office yada yada yada through yada yada yada. Thanks!

What the hell was the point of EOM (at the beginning of the subject!) if you were going to go on and add text to the body of the email? For some reason it drives me irrationally batty.

  • I work at a B2B publication and do A LOT of proofreading. I don't think there's enough time in the day to go over the grammar mistakes that make me stabby.

  • I can't stand when 'definitely' is spelled 'defiantly'.

    Totally different words, people.

  • I used to proofread as part of previous job.  I was supposed to be checking content to make sure that documents contained the information required by the state.  However, I spent a lot of time fixing spelling and grammar.  I understand people make mistakes but when I have sent the same mistake back to you three or four times and you refuse to correct it I get a little upset.

I once had to write the definition of personnel vs. personal on a document because the writer kept insisting on using the wrong one.  That person was probably my worst offender.  When I found out she had a master's degree I wanted to track down each of her professors and show them a picture of her to find out if she had been the one to sit in the classes or if she had paid someone to take the classes for her.  She didn't even know how to put thing in alphabetical order?  She thought you just grouped each letter together.
